I basically do the same thing except i use the bike lift to change the geometry of the adjust bolts/nuts to allow access with wrenches. For the normal R&R of this radiused plug my tool of choice is a std bike cone wrench that has the tight radius side cut-off so that i don't need to remove the exhaust. The idea came from another member's post early on

Belt Adjustment with V&H Bigshots using One-Off Axle Tool
Here's a tool i made to torque the rear axle nut without removing the V&H muffler. I got the idea from a posting on this site! If you search there are other versions for modified tools.

I R&R the engine oil on the side stand with the wheels blocked using the closed end of this 12pt wrench in 17mm. I have no problem reaching both drain plugs [ ] and my bike is lowered 1"

The proper tool bit for the Left side cover security screw is a T30 Tamperproof Torx, NAPA #775-5938

Re: 06 front pulley nut size?
As RatPhlem said a 6 pt socket is best for this application as well as for chrome or SS hex hd bolts to preserve the finish
