Preferably I would like to pass the lines through current throttle guides,

FYI the wire chrome guide under the top tree on the RH side is for the OEM brake hose and not the throttle cables although many owners use this guide after installing the smaller SS frt brake line depending upon the cable geometry with the new bar or risers. In some cases the guide will cause the throttle cables to stick or hang-up when the steering is turned lock to lock as is the case with my new HD risers & Clubman bar with the current throttle cable.

so they look nice together. IMO, I need a 2" extra, but I'm not sure. I measured with the tape and it looks like I would need the total length of 23".

Does anyone had Carlini SuperSweeps installed with a custom Galfer line? Let me know what is the extra lenght you added to the stock length. I think 2" should be OK, to have it passed through the little metal stays and have enough lose to don't have issues with the T being installed into stock location.[/quote]

... the Galfer Warrior std frt 3 line kit FK003D311-3 top line is 24.5" (24-1/2") long from the CL (centerline) of the banjo bolt to the end of the male protruding flare that connects to the Tee under the bottom tree!

You'll want to keep in mind that the Galfer Tee doesn't mount in the same position so look HERE

I just brought in a custom top line for my 3-pc Galfer assy last week that i purchased from Cycle Brakes @ 23" lg with a straight banjo at the master in lieu of the std angled end because it fits my needs more precisely. I ordered the hose on Fri 6/12 and received it the following Mon 6/15. No BS like some of the vendors want 2 to 3 wks.

I have the top hose in black w/o logos with the SS trim @ + 1-1/2" if you want. If interested send me an e-mail.

It is 26" long CL to end if that will work for you

Review my photos very carefully and for measuring i used a pc of coxial cable for my story stick running from the existing Tee through the cable guide canting the cable like a hose to the CL of the master cyl outlet. I then measured the length with a tape and double checked myself by doing it twice. You are always better off to error slightly longer with hydraulics for safety than looks!

Here's a Galfer dwg that i took off their web site and modified showing the factory special in-house 10mm male bubble end so that i received the proper part out of the gate! CLICK ON PHOTO TO ENLARGE. The std master banjo end is type B.

..... Alan, is it Galfer you have now for your front brake lines? What bothers me with Galfer is that they have their name printed on cables like 285 times....

Custom Brake Lines - 3 Days :>)

The Galfer black SS frt & rear brake lines that i received from Cycle Brakes have no markings at all on them.

Does Barnett have the same "problem"? I really like a clean look...

no markings on the Barnett cable received from Phat Perf.

At least I can get the Barnett cables with the banjos chromed and the sleeve black. It will still look cool in front of those chromed bars.
Alan, do you recall what was the part you ordered from Phat (straight end clutch lever)? I plan to so a straight clutch cable also.

Copy of E-mail: Wednesday, August 24, 2005 5:11 PM

Matt,

This confirms our phone conversation of yesterday afternoon, Aug 23rd, for the order:

One (1) BARNETT custom clutch cable for a 2004 Yamaha RoadStar Warrior with the following specifications as discussed with Joe in Tech support at BARNETT and to be confirmed by you with Joe.

Part No. 26342 with straight top @ clutch lever adjustment

Stock Length

Color Black

Delivery 1 1/2 wks approx

I also recall that you were not that favorable to Spiegler, compared to Galfer (quality wise).

If i was, i don't remember the topic post Stainless Steel fittings are my mat'l of choice for brake lines.

I had Barnett fabricate a std length clutch cable with a Road* straight end at the clutch lever that I purchased thru Phats mid '05' that has reduced the pull force of the lever.

Here's some reading with additional threads regarding opinions. Brake line specs: http://rswarrior.com/forums/p/109021/902074.aspx#902074

Here's some info on a modified cable end at the clutch perch as well as the superior Barnett cable construction:

clutch cable: http://rswarrior.com/forums/p/25018/368110.aspx#368110 http://rswarrior.com/forums/p/115821/940859.aspx#940859

The Goodridge brake lines supplied by Barnett will bring prominence to the fittings as shown here on bigbear2592 as they are bulky IMO.

Spiegler lines on Chuck Brazeau's bike (Brazeau Racing) are a single pc swagged assy as are Galfer!

The only down side to the 3 pc line is that it has 2-more connections.

The Galfer PN FK003D311-3 will fit your Yami TT's and mounts slightly different than the Russell brake line which is offered by Yamaha or from Phat Performance at a lower yet price. The Galfer will give you the firmest lever because of its construction but the Russell is a direct fit to the exact mounts. There are other makes out there but their fittings are large and combersome IMO.

Here's some threads to change your thinking:

Phats sells the stock length Russell 3-pc line same as the Yamaha accessory at a great price and it's a direct bolt on. My Galfer custom mounts differently:http://flickr.com/photos/15071518@N07/sets/72157603774971903/

Re: 2 vs. 3 front brake lines

I have the 3-pc Galfer frt line because i prefer the look and IMO it's cleaner @ the master cylinder (MC).

My .02 regarding lines:
Technically, in hydraulics, the shorter the lines (smaller volume) the less compressability of fluid and hence a firmer lever/pedal at the MC when operated.

Fluid flows to the point of least resistance just like electricity, so the 2-line set-up isn't any better, probably worse [:0]

The 3-pc line is more expensive to manufacture but does have two more connections that could be a source of a leak.

Anyway, they all work... the Galfer 3-pc is a bit combersome to mount but will give you the firmest feel because it is shorter and fabricated from small diameter SS hose. The Rusell 3-pc is next inline.

Re: Braided Lines

My .02 on brake lines:

IMHO the lines that offer the least amount of fluid compression and firmest lever are produced by Galfer. They offer both a single & dual line assembly. They swage the banjo adpater directly to the hose and are very compact. The single line from the MC uses a tee under the bottom tree which requires 3-additional connection pts that could be a source of a leak. I have that hose assembly:http://www.rswarrior.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=51293 ... they use stainless steel mat'l as a standard for the fittings!

Spiegler brake lines are very similar to the Galfer swagged construction. I don't believe they have a 3-line set-up!

The Yamaha aftermarket braided SS lines are made by Russell and will bolt on exactly like the stock lines. If i'm not mistaken, you can buy them from Phats at a much better price then from Yamaha. They are compact and a totally swaged assembly including the mounting tee under the headlamp.

Barnett doesn't make brake hoses [:0] they are made by Goodridge and are only available as a dual line for the frt. From what i have observed, their hose assembly is swaged w/female connectors and the appropriate male hex banjo adapter is attached which makes for a larger heavier end IMO and another place to leak. No question that they sure do look sharp in chrome []http://www.rswarrior.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=32708

Re: Installing New SS Brake Lines

As stated, take the necessary precautions to protect your investment from any stray brake fluid or spills!

With your late model '07' bike I suggest the following:
Direct the brake fluid from the right frt caliper into a glass jar using surgical tubing at the bleeder screw. Tie the frt MC brake lever so that it is partially operated. Remove the banjo bolt at the MC and cover the end with a small sandwich bag and elastic band.

The brake fluid should run freely from the hose into the jar. Remove caliper banjo bolt and bag end. Repeat this procedure for the left caliper.

Rear brakes same procedure but wedge the brake pedal between the exhaust pipe to prevent loss of fluid from MC brake reservoir. Remember, you need to open the bleeder 1st before operating the pedal

I found gravity bleeding the rear brakes to be more tenuous after replacing the stock brake hose then was the frt!
It was necessary for me to loosen the rear MC (2-screws) and twist it in such a fashion so that the air could escape from the right angle portion of the new hose at the MC outlet. Essentially, I twisted it so that the angled end was vertical & sloped to release the air. I also dismounted and blocked the caliper piston and positioned it as low as possible with the bleeder screw pointing up.

If gravity bleeding is used just be sure that the air isn#%92t trapped at the nose of the MC or any fitting. I always follow up with the typical/traditional pumping of the lever or pedal in unison w/the bleeder screw.

Up frt start with the furthest caliper 1st to remove the air…leaving the reservoir cover open or loose will help the fluid flow quicker. The position of the MC nose is critical to be successful with this procedure. Short stroking of the lever will remove the air from the banjo fitting if the MC is tilted w/the nose down and the fitting at a right angle.

This isn't rocket science, just remember that the air wants to rise so you need to provide the proper path [] Investing in a proper vacuum device is certainly quicker but isn't req'd IMO.
Re: braided brake lines

I have a custom 3 pc SS Galfer front brake line.
