The mechanic said he measured 6 1/4" but that was with the tire still on the rim so prolly more of a guestimate.
i think its 18X7.5 thats wat the raider forum guys r sayin.
They must be measuring the outside of the wheel, our wheel is 7" on the outside, and 6" on the inside. Good to know though cause I'm gonna guess it's just 1/2" wider than ours.
As stated the Raider rear wheel is 18" x 7-1/2" where as the Warrior is 17" x 6"

The Metzler 210/40R18 is a NEW tire size and was built specifically for the Raider 7-1/2" rear wheel and will fit on a 7.00-8.00 in rim according to their '08' tire guide.

This type information is readily available in the Owner's Manual Online that can be viewed on the Yamaha factory site here: http://www.starmotorcycles.com/star/service/viewmanuals/star_manuals.aspx

There's some excellent info listed in the rear of the manual under specifications. Even transmission ratios and frt/rear pulley specs

Most alloy wheels are nominally 1/2" wider, approx, as wheel width is measured at the sealing bead.

Re: 240 rubbing on swingarm
[All the spacers/collars are in place. I'm wondering if I can place an additional spacer/washer on either side of the wheel so that when I tighten the axel nut, it'll leave just enough spacing for the wheel to clear the swingarm?
That's a band-aid repair that will probably work with a very thin spacer but i wouldn't recommend it as your solution The axle has minimal threads and you'll be creating a non-parallel alignment, just my .02!

The inside machined surfaces of the swing arm, although forgiving, are fabricated to the exact dimension of all the inner brg races and combined spacers/collars when preloaded (tightened/torqued). You can end up coining the inside of the arm by the eccentric load IMO.

Based on your gallery photos i can see that you are running a 240 Dunlop Elite 3 and what looks to be a 8 1/2" weld-up whl which doesn't require much metal removal at all from the inside of the arm because it is a narrower profile tire than the Metzler.

Pull your wheel, get out your right angle grinder or Dremel and remove the metal where the wheel is rubbing. Making clearance for the Elite 3 tire isn't rocket science at all and can be done on the bike. Finish off with a rattle can. My question is....can you do the grinding without taking the swingarm off the bike. I've taken the back tire & wheel off once to save myself a few bucks on getting tire change. It looks like if you jack up the bike with a motorcycle jack (which I have)it looks like you should be able to reach all the areas that need to be ground. Pros & Cons????

Edited 4/13/08 : <strike>As i recall RaySDF250 modified his swingarm on the bike for the Dunlop Elite 3, maybe he will pipe in</strike>

I did this mod 1-year ago with an 4" angle grinder that was on sale. Being that i purchased a swingarm from another member i did it off the bike. Also, my arm is modified for the Metzler 240 tire that resides on a 18 x 8-1/2 wide rim and requires much more stock removal on the cast component.
Here's a link if interested:http://flickr.com/photos/15071518@N07/sets/72157602604622871/show/

My preferred tool of choice for this job would be a Pneumatic Angle Die Grinder - 20,000 RPM which would allow for more precise metal removal for the 240 Metazler. This type of tool requires 14CFM which i can't support.

Here's a photo of how to mask off and protect your investment if on the bike [] I chose to do a rerun for additional stock removal that's why the enclosed photos

[

Re: Pirelli Diablo 240 tire?

Do a Search w/my handle []
Here you go in decending order of importance
http://www.rswarrior.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=59659&SearchTerms=Diablo
http://www.rswarrior.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=60473&SearchTerms=diablo
http://www.rswarrior.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=56103&SearchTerms=Diablo
I paid $156.85 Landed + mounting and balancing $26.00 and will probably get 1/2 the mileage as the Metzler 240 []
I have a brand new Metzler 240, i picked-up off of Ebay, parked in my garage that i paid $202.95 Landed waiting to be installed when needed
mdfdwarrior ...
