    Today's (Sunday) ride

Sorry y'all missed it.  The ride was about 90% back-roads and I mean *back* roads.  The guy who planned the route out used some GPS mapping software.  We actually rode just under two miles on gravel roads just to give you an idea of how off of the beaten path we were.  Made a few interesting stops at a windmill place and some state park where there was a cliff beside the Neuse River and stuff.  I took a few pictures but used my cell phone and I can't pull the pictures off of it until I bring it to work where I have my laptop set up for bluetooth with the phone.  Took two pictures of the odometer when I got home.  First of the trip odometer and then the total mileage:

    Quick Dragon update

JUNE 2: TDOT is busy paving the pull-offs on the Dragon. They are working their way southward from Tabcat Bridge and have already paved half a dozen areas. This will make it much easier to pull over to let traffic pass.

JUNE 29: We sadly report the first fatality on the Dragon since September of 2008. Rider went off the road on Saturday for no apparent reason. No one witnessed the crash and friends and LEOs searched for hours before finding the accident. Reason for the accident is not yet known.

Hmmm...  I'm getting the urge again to try this out.  1,000 miles in one day.  Anyone else interested into looking into doing a 1,000 mile ride in a day to get your Iron Butt certification?  Pretty sure I could do it...  now that I have a Harley...  Wink

Hmmm...  OK, looking into this a little more...  1,066 mile round trip from my house to Daytona Beach, Florida and back.  If I left at 4:00 am and averaged 66 mph during the trip then I would get back home at 8:00 pm.  Hmm....  95% of the trip would be on I-95 where the speed-limit is mostly 70 mph.  This sounds very doable...  Hmmm....  Hmm  I found a "Primus" one liter fuel bottle for about $20 shipped to my door.  Could keep gasoline in that "just in case."  I have inner tubes so I could bring along a can of fix-a-flat.  Some water in a bottle, some food that's easy/quick to eat...  Stop for gas no more than ten times and eat during the gas stops.  Yeah...  I could do this......

Stopped at REI after work yesterday and got a 30 oz (1/4 gallon) fuel bottle and a 70 oz CamelBak "UnBottle" with drinking tube.  Will fill up the fuel bottle and if I screw up and run out of gas I can get another 10 miles if needed "from the bottle."  Will fill up the CamelBak with ice and water first thing tomorrow morning.  I'm heading out at 4am tomorrow (Wednesday) morning.  Just bringing extra fuel, water, beef jerky, and aspirin.  Hopefully I'll get back home tomorrow but I might stop if it gets too late and stay at a hotel for a few hours and then get up and finish the ride.  That's *if* I can pull this off.   1066 miles round-trip.  Drink a cold one for me tomorrow around 6pm or so.  Indifferent

IRON BUTT - putting it into perspective

I had time to think a lot today while riding out to Daytona Beach and back.  I think the longest ride I've been on with you guys was to Swansboro and back.  I just checked google maps and it says it's 139 miles "from Raleigh to Swansboro."  So 278 miles total...  I did 1083 miles today.  1083/278=3.89.  So the ride I did today would be kinda like riding to Swansboro and back from Raleigh.  And then riding out there and back again.  And then again.  And then again.  In a row.  Big Smile  Just to put it into perspective.  I'm glad I did the ride today but...  I'm fairly certain that I'm not going to go any further with the Iron Butt thing.  Although...  they do have a 1500 mile in 36 hour certification, too...  I could always leave at 6am tomorrow morning and ride somewhere about 220 miles away and come right back...  As long as I got back before noon tomorrow I'd qualify for the "Butt Burner" certification too...  Hmmm...  Who's up for an early-morning ride tomorrow?  Hey...  If we went out to Swansboro and back... and went just a little further, that would do it...  SurpriseCoolWink

    ps-  F*CK THAT.  Ick!

Oh yeah...  you're right.  Google maps says from Raleigh to Robbinsville is 342 miles to today's ride would have been like riding to Robbinsville, turning around and riding back to Raleigh, then riding back out to Robbinsville again.  Ick!  Ugh.  Long rides just do NOT sound appealing to me right now for some odd reason.  Thanks!

Thanks, I did.  I *just* got out of bed and came downstairs.  Went to bed last night at about 8:30 or so and fell asleep almost immediately and slept like a fossilized ROCK all night long.  My feel pretty good.  My hands are a little puffy and sore and my eyes look a little swollen and my ears are not quite back to 100% of their normal 80% rate of functioning but other than that...  Who's up for a ride today?  Stick out tongue  Oh yeah, my back tire's about worn out.  Front tire too.  Absolutely need to replace both before the Dragon trip.  Smile

Thanks, Dwight.  I'll have to check out their prices before I order any tires online.  Would be nice if they could match or beat the online prices.

    Hey everybody!

First time posting in part of the forum.  I have been hooked on the look of the warrior since I first saw it in the dealership back home in TX.  I check up on this site usually every day I get the chance to...time for me to stop being a troll!

Im currently deployed out of Fort Bragg and look forward to getting a warrior and meeting up with everybody!

I know of at least one other warrior in the Fayetteville area.  I saw the bike at the Sonic Drive-in a few times, and I have seen one on post before.  Is that someone one of you guys?
