Wild Wild West Ride- Slideshow on pg 25!

Okay, I've firmed up  all the hotel reservations and the trip starts on the 14th with a stay in Havasu.   The Hotels are

Days Inn Havasu night of the 14th (May)  http://www.daysinnlakehavasu.com/
    Hotel Vendome Prescott 15th   http://www.vendomehotel.com/
    Howard Johnson Flagstaff 16th  www.hojo.com
Lake Powell Resort Page 17th  http://www.lakepowell.com/lodging-food/lake-powell-resort.cfm  (not a real resort)
Virgin River  Hotel  Mesquite 18th http://www.virginriver.com/
    3Youngns House 19th

     Head home on the 20th.

I've only reserved rooms for 8 people listed and I've had to pay for two of them upfront.  If anyone else would like to join just call and get a room at these hotels (if available)!  These are shared rooms which is why the price is so low.  2 people per room and I have 4 rooms.

The total for lodging for the eight below is $215 or $43 per night per person.  I did a lot of research on these hotels and tried to get the best rates with the best ratings in the best locations (with decent security for the bikes.

*If you'd like to go on the cheap, I understand, but please let me know now so I can cancel your rooms.  There is always cheaper that's for sure but they're usually on the outskirts with no amenities and in bad parts of town where I worry about the bikes. *  AGAIN, PLEASE LET ME KNOW, OTHERWISE YOU'RE COMMITTED TO THE FEES ABOVE FOR THIS TRIP!  Thanks in advance- The management  Geeked

Nice trip. It'll take a full day from Laughlin to Flag on that route. Another full day from Flag to Kayenta via the south rim of the Grand Canyon, and the only thing in Kayenta is a coal mine and a resort indian hotel / gas stop. With good gas planning its a day to St George (or iron-azz to Vegas). Be aware in April/May there will be sand on most of these back roads (except I40 and AZ93), and stones/rocks/gravel from the hillsides in the twisties. +/- Tuba City to Kayenta is Navajo land. Cool, your route goes through Jerome, a legendary bike route, we liked to plan lunch there. I don't know if any of the ghost town hotels are still in business. BTW the south rim by itself is an all-day affair. Traffic. Oh, gas-up on 40 east of Kingman AZ (maybe its exit 66?) and also gas-up on 93-S in Wikieup even if you don't need it. If you take 93 south all the way to 71 east to Congress AZ (no gas?) then you get to ride Yarnell Hill going north! If helpful, be cautious of Hwy 97/96 between 93 at the Bagdad exit, then to Hillside and Kirkland. But the road from Kirkland Junction to Skull Valley to Prescott is good, so in early months we would 'go around' thru Congress or Wickenberg. Casino and I rode to Laughlin from Avondale (Phoenix) several times a year, for years, by various back road routes. We rode just about everywhere in AZ and always had a good time.

You all need to finish out the ride by coming to Nor-Cal and visiting us at Kaiser.

Sounds like we've got our guide fellas! See you there ArizonaWarrior!

At this point, here's what I'm thinking. (And guys, make suggestions here. I honestly do not know where the hell I'm going especially in Utah!)

Wednesday night in Laughlin for norcal/socal guys.
    Thursday night in Prescott,
    Friday night in Flagstaff,
    Saturday night in Kayenta,
    Sunday night in Hanksville,
    Monday night in St George,
    Tuesday night in Vegas,
    and Wednesday we ride home.

I think that gives us enough time to enjoy a lot of it without pushing it too hard or riding at night. Here's the new map.

Jody, you're about to go on the greatest road trip of all my friend. The road of fatherhood. Lots of turns, hills, straightaways, and even some sleepless nights like when you got your tricky air (but different). Best of luck to you brother.

The road from Prescott to Flag isn't an "all-day ride" but Jerome is a kick for lunch and Flagstaff is a great American town.

Sounds like an awesome ride! Not to mention, I could *REALLY* use the week off of work! <grin> Anyone have information about accomodations for each night. The sooner we can book rooms, the more likely I can go. Also, anyone else from the Livermore area planning to go?

Re: Wild Wild West Ride- CA, AZ,UT May 15th-20th

My name is Bill Love and I live near Ogden, UT. I just stumbled upon your road trip. Most any trip is a good trip and you can always make adjustments.
End of last June, I went with my son and his friend on a three day trip through some of this area. 1100 miles I think. We drove alot, stoped alot, and got to see some stuff. So I'm just making comments and hope they help. I might try to make some of this trip. I also drive a car to Phoenix thru Flagstaff about twice a year.
The bike trip was (1)Ogden to Moab, (2)Moab to Cortez CO / four corners / Kayenta / Hite @ Lake Powell,(3) Hite to Ogden.
*It looked like AZWarrior had some good ideas.
*I think Laughlin to Flagstaff is a one dayer, including stops.
*You can go NW out of downtown Flagstaff to get to the South Rim.
South Rim to Hwy 89 is a good drive.
*I really hate the drive from Flagstaff north to Page. Nothing but dry dirt. And it's the same for the turnoff to Kayenta.
North of Kayenta on the Utah border is a good place called Gouldings that has a motel and stuff. Always keep your gas tank full but gas is not hard to find.
*After Gouldings you are in Monument Valley where Forest Gump ran.
*After you leave Mexican Hat you are in for some really great riding. The pavement ends and you go some switchbacks. Then you get your pavement back and you go on a high plateau and you most likely will not see anyone else on the road.
*Hite is a good place to stay. You are at the north end of Lake Powell. Gas available.
*Hite to Bullfrog intersection is a great drive. There to Hanksville is a long, straight drive through nothing. I took Mr. Maxx up to 120 there and started to wobble and backed off. Had the tires rebalaced since then, I need a long straight road.
*** End of Part 1. I'm not trying to be negative, but when you look at a map of that area and there is nothing there, they mean it.

Good input.. So it's better to go up an around to Moab thru Mexican Hat? Or should we stay just north of Powell. I'm afraid our bikes are going to well off pavement but I'm sure you know that. Now I know I need to put a front fender back on!

Chris, I'm not sure where the NorCal guys are. Or the Vegas guys.. They can't all be out having babies....or could they?
