    Don't Get Metzeler Tires

I just wanted to let everyone know that I got the Metzeler Marathon 210 tire. I thought that it would last a lot longer than the stock tire. It did not even last 3000 miles. I got 4800 out of my stock Dunlop. So when I was down at Bikeweek I saw a rep from Metzeler and told him about my tire and showed it to him. He told me that that Metzeler tire is not made for the Warrior. He said it is too soft for it. It is made for custom choppers with a lower swingarm... he went into the dynamics of that, but to make a long story short, it was the wrong tire for the Warrior. He said that Metzeler does not make a tire for the Warrior at this time. But they are working on one. He also told me that the only company that makes the correct tire for it is the OEM tires, Bridgestone and Dunlop at this time. But he was nice enough to give me 50% off whatever tire I choose to replace the Metzeler. He told me to go to a local dealership and they would replace it with the tire of my choice for 50% off. Just wanted to give everyone a head's up!

    Thanks,
I#%92ve read here that a few riders use it, and it was going to be my choice for replacement tires but now I have to rethink that. Although for 50% off I would probably go with it.

Maybe 3000 miles on the front tire. Add in burn-out time and you most likely have 10,000! LOL

After 2 rear tires in less than 6000 miles I changed from stock rubber to a pirelli. So far I like this tire better, I have a 1000 miles on it and there still more tread on it that the stock tire had when it was new.
Feels pretty good on wet roads too. I have more confidence in it than the Dunlop.

I have 8600 miles on my stock Bridgestone BT020's with plenty of tread life left. I plan on going back to the Bridgestones!

Fifer, I've looked at the pirelli's. Which one do you have.

    Thanks

If you want to stick the rear when you launch go with the bridestone 010 its soft & may last longer cause it don't spin as easily. Got 2500 on it & it looks new. Don't know how it will hold up on hot roads yet.

    Church,
The Bridgestones BT010 are a softer compound like you mentioned. Those my friend will melt like butter in the Florida heat in Summertime. The BT020's are a harder compound, hence longer tread life. Then the roads you and I ride on differ tremendously. Also, as you know I do not spend much time going in a straight line either. I do most my driving on my side walls, Ha! LoL!

Also, I have only once had my rear tire want to break away from under me in a tight turn, but that was my own doing by passing in a turn to smke some pathetic VTX Rider and I still smoked him! LoL!

I am not trying to give Metzeler a bad name. That is just what they told me. They did not reccomend that tire for a Warrior. Oh Yea, the 50% off is not on the tire, it is on the replacement for the bad one. Plus it will probably be off retail, which is already very high. So it is not that great a deal.

    50% off a $200.00 tire is a savings of $100.00! That's a huge deal!

    Re: Don't Get Metzeler Tires

The "Fitment Chart" on Metzeler's website actually recommends the Sportec M-1 200/50-17 for the Warrior's rear (talk about soft and sticky!). And for the front a MEZ4 120/70-18. (it does specify the 2003 model - can't imagine it makes a differance) I went for the MEZ4's front (120/70-18) and rear (190/50-17) for matching tread pattern, a little harder compound and (hopefully) longer tread life, we'll see.
The stock Dunlops gave me 5900 miles. I do love the feel of the Metzelers. Very smooth and stable though the curves. So far I like them much better than the stock Dunlops. I'll post as well as to how they hold up.
