     Church,

Recieved the kit just the other day and everything does look pretty nice. A question occurred to me though. Did you have any rationale for choosing the length of the tubes from a wave dynamics perspective or was it more a question of packaging?

Ha!! That is funny. Packaging has little to do with anything other than getting the product to you unless you are refering to the product as a whole.

My hat is tipped to you, you are the first person to ever inquire about wave dynamics/volumetric efficiency.

IMHO: short-running intakes have better VE (volumetric efficiency) low and high. In the low range, it's because short-runner intakes have less "pumping loss". Shorter pulses of air are easier to "load" into the cylinders at low rpms -- because it takes less energy to move a smaller air pulse (which has less mass). At higher rpms (e.g., above 2500rpms), VE is best where wave harmonics of the intake fill the cylinders best.

A longer runner catches the 3rd order harmonic (of intake reversion) at those mid-rpms. It fills better and has better VE -- at those rpms. As it moves above that harmonic (rpm), the wave disappates -- and so does VE.

Short runner intakes catch the 3rd order harmonic at higher rpms. Plus, they typically flow more air anyway. So, their VE is better at rpms above those of the next harmonic & is out of range for motors staying under 6k rpms.

    Hope this helps.

Yeah I meant packaging as in making it fit under the tank.

So you're saying that this runner is designed to capture the 3rd order at mid-high (for a warrior) rpm?  What is the intake length from the back of the valve?

" What is the intake length from the back of the valve? "

Its time for you to do some research on your own.

All my technical data is stored on an older computer. I would not share it with you anyway.

Fair enough. Not trying to pirate your research.

My main curiosity was whether you were exploiting the 'positive' or 'negative' wave.  Meaning, is the target wave from the initial opening of the valve (a low pressure 'negative' wave) which inverts and returns.  Or is it from the closing of the valve which returns as a positive wave due to bouncing off of the end of the filter.

In other words, is the end effect of the tube opening up dominant or is the effect from the cap of the filter dominant, in your opinion.

Relevance: Would the bike perform better with no filters (foreign material risk aside)?

The V-BAK has been developed for the performance street rider, use without proper air filtration was never  a consideration.

I'm no scientist but I do know when I twist the throttle I feel a positive wave start at my toes and explode out my head and when I look around I get the negative (one finger) wave from little old lady's and socker moms as I go flying by

I'm considering buying a Warrior but noticed when sitting on one how stupid that protruding right-side 'shield' is; it pushes my knee out. Among other things of course, does this kit allow for the removal of that shield? It sounds like it relocates the components within it elsewhere, yes? In the photo threads I see all sorts of replacements for this shield; some have air scoops facing forward or even up, others have exposed conical air filters, some have two large holes (air intakes?) and still others have nothing at all. What's the deal here?

     Sorry for a slight derail.

Once you remove your factory airbox and replace it with a BAK (Big Air Kit) of any kind then the "shield" is no longer needed. Some people keep it, some people turn it into storage. I myself ditched the extra weight, made a bracket and modified a trailer hitch skull to work whenever I hit the switch. It get's a lot of looks..plus I ditched the weight of the shield. If you don't want the scoop on the left side of the bike then you can perform a dry-break mod and remove that scoop as well. You can do some research on Dry-break(s) in the search menu and posting up your own questions. I have removed both from my bike because I have a 1670CC motor and I want everyone to see that big ol' monster...lol...
