How do I get boot rubber off the chrome exhaust?

So it looks like some melted rubber from my boots are on the exhaust and it mired and leaves a mark... I tried with rubbing compound, but it didn't do any good.

Anyone have any other tips that work?

How do you guys get rid of it?

    Thanks in advance.

use a chrome polish like Meguiars. Mothers or even Turtle wax chrome polish. Stop using the rubbing compound.

You may have to apply several liberal amounts, but eventually it will come off. The second and third applications will really knock it off for you. Just don't apply anything harsh that will leave scratches. Patience and perserverance![;)]

I'll give it a shot. Didn't think about chrome polish.

Wonder why though the rubbing compound or even cleaner wax didn't do anything. Thought that if that was abrasive, then nothing else would get it out.

    thanks!

Scrape lightly with a razor blade.

Yep, works every time. Just make sure the exhaust is stone cold first. And if you want it to work even better then get a can of "canned air" and turn in upside down and spray the area to chill it. It will flake right now when lightly scraped with a razor blade.

No No No!!!!! Use Easy-Off oven cleaner. Start with a cold pipe. Start the motor up for just 2 or 3 minutes. Just enought to get the pipe warm. Apply the oven cleaner to the affected part. Make sure to protect the rest of the bike. Use a towel to cover the other areas. Leave over night and in the AM just wipe off.

    Sand blasting is extremely effective.

Simple Green and a plastic putty knife should do it. That's what worked after I threw over a nylon cover right after shutting the bike off (my old V-Star). Not a good idea, by the way.

I worried using knives and sandblasting would scratch the chrome, no?

EZ Off, that sounds like a very cost effective dual purpose fix.

Also what do you do when you scrape the bottom of it and it takes chrome off? What would be the best "touch up paint"?

With the EZ Off - the next AM it looked like nothing happened. Then I took a cloth to rub it and the melted nylon came off in one sheet. No damage to the pipe what so ever. It was fantastic.

You may wanna get in touch with Warrior Dave and see if he'll stop by one day at work. When he's ready to leave park the Warrior behind his FA-18 and talk him into taking off in full afterburner, this should cook the melted rubber right off.[:D][B)]

There is a trade-off to being crippled, you get the best parking, but the limping really sucks.
My wife calls me "Ol' 2-stroke," but I've never owned a 2-stroke bike in my life, I can't figure out where she gets that from. Hmmmm?
