Hey guys, I needed to buy a new oil filter with my upcoming engine work this week. I new this was on here but took forever searching it out. I cut and copied the list. Hey ChopTop the AMSOIL filter number for your bike is SMF103. Last time I bought one it was about $8.00. When I ran AMSOIL I wouldn't run any other filter other than theirs. I'm sure others are just as good, but why not have a matching set??

    Hope this helps a little.

I just picked up the K&N KN-303. It's nice because it has a 17mm nut on the end of it.

    Re: OIL Filters Reference Chart

Hey guys, just want to caution you on a couple of things regarding not using the Yamaha oil filter. Yamaha has designed their filters for their lube systems so it is constructed with a specific micron filtration sizing and a specific setting on the bypass valve. Any other filter that you use should have these same specs. Changing filters with higher filtration properties may not be good for your engine. Same with a bypass valve that opens at too high or too low a pressure. I have heard of Harley engines self destructing due to the use of aftermarket filters designed for automotive use. Hope this info helps.

I don't think there are any secrets lurking in the Yamaha oil filter. Most of the aftermarket ones are fine.

I always use the K&N 303C and am satisfied with it. I'm sure others are fine as well except Fram[xx(].

The Harleys didnt self destruct because of the car filters, they self destructed because of poor design[:D]

    Re: OIL Filters Reference Chart

The parts store was out of K&N's. I read all the boxes, they all claim the same particulate and micron specs as each other, including the K&N's. The only difference I can see is either the Chrome option or the nut on the end. I bought the Bosch 3323's at $5.99 each, one for now and one for after break-in...
