HOW TO: Sync the Throttle Bodies

A search of the topic revealed alot of recommendations to sync the Throttle Bodies to improve engine smoothness, and maybe improve off-idle response.

But i didn't find any instructions. Is this something i can do myself?
Will someone who knows please post instructions, or refer me to a site that has instructions?

    Thanks for your help.

I used the instructions slothy has linked above, the tool works fine, used transmission fluid for the oil. When using this tool you balance the vacuum to each cylinder, by "leveling" the oil in the tubes. I was looking for my service manual, but I noticed slothy linked the instructions for this in his first post. Great job slothy!

Why don't they come alredy synced? Is this something that has to be done often?

slothy. do you or somebody else on here have pics of the actual sync process I seem to remember seeing some pictures from way back. I see all the numbers and etc but without actually pulling my stuff off I am not quite grasping the process. Will having a BAK make things any easier

I read the instructions and looked at the pictures but I'm unclear as to where the manometer tubes need to be connected.

    BUMP

I'm doing the sync soon, but I'm also not 100% sure were to connect the hoses.

It seems to me that if you have removed the AIS you have to connect one hose to the HARD TO REACH NIPPLE? That would be hose #2 in the service manual. Is that correct?

What I intend to do is to use the stock vacuum hose, cut it to length, secure it on the nipple and somehow simply block it off. That way I have always easy access for syncing later on.

Nice timing on this. I had planned on making the tool and synching mine today! Will the 1/8 tubing work on the Warrior?

As far as I know, Yamaha needs 6mm adapters. I ordered a Morgan Carbtune II and it comes with 5mm and 6mm adapters.

When you get it done, maybe you can post some pics of connection points, etc. Would sure be nice.

Re: HOW TO: Sync the Throttle Bodies

I went to Home Depot and cxame out with the stuff for a home-made tool. I bought a small packege of clear tubing, 1/4 OD by .170 ID by 20ft. It worked just fine. I used a steel ruler and clear tape. It took all of a minute or two to make the tool. I filled it with 5W30 Mobil One synthetic. I used an old syringe (and the old lady said I should throw that stuff away after I quit using!) to fill it. That made it much easier than trying to pour it in. I hung it on the handle of a floor jack, that worked nicely.

Motor mount. I have a BAK and no AIS so I had to hook it up here.

    Very nice OldMan,

Thank you very much for the pictures!

How was the sync, did you have to adjust?

Yes, mine were off by a bunch. I didn't note the figures, but there was approx 7 inches of Mobil One 5W30 difference between the two. [:D] I have no idea what that would work out to with mercury but it sure didn't look good to me. They are now equal!![:)]
