How can he not get caught??? You reported this guys license plate. Doesn't that tie back to an address? You've got a lot of money coming your way if you follow through properly with lawyers. Tell them about how he bent the plate up....the cops will look for the bend mark witness....that'll solidify the hit and run.

What a piss poor excuse of a human being. Accidents happen, own up to them, but never ever run down someone come back and then deny all responsibility, remove the evidence of your involvement, and leave the victim lying in the road in an unknown state of health. Git this scum bags address and all of us will pay him a visit and we will impress upon him the error of his ways[:(!][:(!][:(!][:(!] Ken ,I hope they catch this POS and put him under the jail. Gods speed on your recovery. Keep us informed.

Well, here's the kicker. The cops ran the plate and have the registered owners info but because it's an out of state plate they say they can't go to the owner to find out if he was driving the car. I think that's BS. It wasn't just a fender bender, it was involved in a felony. I'm going to call an FHP supervisor on tuesday to get the real scoop.

We have a lot of Alabama registered cars here, I'm told it's because alabama doesn't require insurance. They said the only way to get him is to find the car here. They did say they put a felony arrest warrant under that plate number so if he gets pulled over for anything they will arrest him. But that's not good enough.

It's like they are just lazy....and this is the Florida state troopers, not local cops since it happened in the county and not the city.

Here's the info on the car owner, taken right off the police report I got:

(Name edited out). Seems like they could have an Alabama cop go there and find out who was driving, Tell them it was involved in a felony and if they don't give a name and address they will go to jail. It's probably a friend or family member of the guy that was driving, He did't look like a tourist, looked like he was going to work on a construction site.

When I get better, I'm going to start watching that route in the am to see if I can catch him going to work.

Thinking about getting a lawyer to see if they can find him.

Thanks for all your support...lots of pain today and the loritabs only last about 2 hours.....doing a lot of sleeping.

Yeah, it might be a little more satisfying initially to go to the guy's house and stomp a mud-hole in his @ss, but you'd do better to get a lawyer. I'd be tempted to drive by the guy's house, though, to see if he's living in a sh!thole or if it looks like you can get enough $ from him to never have to work another day of your life.

That sucks! I've been hit twice on a road bike and ran off the road. Nothing as bad as you but the frustration was up there! I hope you get his ass for such ignorance. Heal up!

I'm in the florida panhandle, Pell city alabama is about 5 hours away so I'm easily restrained from doing a drive-by.

I'm sure he is local though, it's very common, car is probably registered to friends or family.

I think I'll get a lawyer...see if they can find him.

Glad to know you're relatively okay. Shouldn't be too hard to get things under control via the owner/operator of the car. A little not so subtle leverage here and there.

Ken I did a Google earth on the address you provided. Looks like the house is on a river. Can't actually see the house but should be worth a few bucks. Some cities have online property info. You may be able to tell if he's the owner. God speed on your recovery.

That really sucks, I road ride and know that feeling about certain sections of road.

    Hope you recover quickly.

Absolutely time to get a lawyer and/or talk to the district attorneys office. Somethings way wrong when they have a name and address and wont pursue a felony hit and run.

This is terrble news Ken. Glad that you're still with us to tell us what happened though. I hope that you get the guy, you sure do have some strange laws over there, someone commited a crime but they can't be arrested for it? Hope that you heal up soon mate.

you could always get a phone number for that residence and call up like you are a radio station or something and offer a free prize. something like this. Hi May I speak with Jack Mitchell...yes Im joe schmo from (insert your local radio station) he has just won a 60 inch HDTV flatscreen do you know how i can reach him. or some other scam like that. greed usually gets the best of people and they will let you know where he lives.

Would seem to me that time is most important. If allowed time to fix his car and clean it up he can deny everything, pay a few false witnesses and it's his word against yours. Better move on this as soon as possible.

I would contact the local news stations. See if anyone is willing to do a story on what happened to you. It would accomplish several issues apparent in your area. 1)the cops are lazy 2)they could investigate and find this guy and bring him to justice OR they would put out a description of the car, plate, and damages and maybe someone would turn him in like a disgruntled coworker or neighbor (a dirtbag like must have easiliy pissed other people off) 3)bring the attention to the local government of how much an issue the illegal out of state registered vehicles are. Good luck, hope everything works out.
