    Completely hidden rear brake reservior

    Hello fellow warriors.

This mod makes the rear brake reservior (called rbr from now on) completey invisible by relocating it under the seat.

    What you need:

    Set of hex wrenches
    Pliars
    rough file

Note: Your stock brake line from the rear master cylinder to the rbr must be the original length.

    Steps:

    1) Remove the right passenger footpeg bracket.

    2) Remove the existing bracketing system you are using to attch the rbr to the bike (this could be the stock exhaust hanger or an aftermarket bracket such as the one from bubs).

    3) Remove the rbr from the brake line and cap the brake line shut. The large hex screws you got when you removed the right passenger footpeg bracket are perfect for this.

    4) Remove the seat and whatever crap you have put under the seat.

    5) Notice that if you look at the rear right hand corner of the black plastic box that is sunk into the frame under the seat (holding the wiring bundle and other assorted goods) you will see a gap. You will eventually fish the rear brake line through that gap, but it has to be enlarged a bit. Use your file (or a dremel) and carefully remove material from the edge of the plastic box until you have enough room to get the rear brake line through. Make sure the edge of the box is not sharp...use the file to smooth it out.

    6) Fish the rear brake line up into the under seat area through the gap you just enlarged.

    7) Reattach the RBR and make sure you don't lose any fliud. If necessary, re-bleed the rear lines. (I didn't have to bleed them).

    8) Whith some gentle persuasion, you can position the RBR under the seat in such a way that the seat closes normally.

That is it. You can still check the rear brake fliud level by holding the RBR upright and visually verifying the level and its completely out of sight.

I know you probably want pics...I will post them tommorow morning of the outside and under the seat.

I think this is a much cleaner look, to have the reservior entirely out of sight...and it costs NOTHING.

    Keep the rubber side down.

    Chris.

My rear brake reservoir is also hidden, only it's hidden in a cardboard box under the work-bench in my garage. [:D]

Yeah, since I almost never ride 2up, I will just remove them completely and bolt them back on when I need them.

    Thanks.

    Chris.

Looks about right. You can also take the resevoir completely off as Shag, others, and I have done and put a banjo bolt in the end with a hose clamp on it. The hole in the bolt allows just enough expansion in the line with compressed but otherwise just keeps it from spilling. Sure there are some who would never do this because techinically it's just not OEM and it could maybe fail somehow but it's been working great for me. I just tucked the line under the seat and the clamp holds it there. When I need to fill or bleed the resevoir (very infrequent) I simply stick the resevoir on the end and fill it, bleed it, then remove it again.
If it ain't broke, I'll fix it till it is.

Hmm...the idea of not being able to quickly visually check my brake fluid made me nervous...hence this mod. I can see how just removing the reservior would be even cleaner...but I like to check brake fliud as part of my pre-ride quickie inspection.

    Best.

    Chris.

parabellum....brake fluid is nasty stuff if it starts leaking in its new home you're sure to have trouble [:(] but must admit it sure does clean up the right rear [:)]
Check this thread out and see if it looks familiar [;)]

Looks good Chris, I might have to do that to mine while my exhaust is getting rechromed.

"brake fluid is nasty stuff if it starts leaking in its new home you're sure to have trouble"

Yeah, but the way I look at it: ANY leak in brake fluid is trouble.

I check my brakes pretty frequently, so it doesn't worry me a bit. But you are right, leaking brake fluid would be bad. On the up side, where I have it, there is nothing under it except an empty space, whose volume is much greater than the volume of the brake fliud reservior. :)

    Chris.
