Titanium Warrior 2004 Europe (2002 US model)

    - HELP WANTED -

    Hy guys!

Just bought an Titanium Warrior 2004 Europe (2002 US model) in second hand.
This bike has about 9000 Miles and its in perfect condition...at leat at the first site!

I just read about the Gear Recall and Fuel Tank. (PANIC!)

Can you please Help me regarding this issue? Does this model has any more defects?
I will have to contact Yamaha Europe to see what will be the best way to correct these problems, since this is an US model that was imported in very limited quantities to Europe.

Would like to have the maximum info so if my bike needs assistance i wish they can do all the replacemens at the same time avoiding going back to the technical services.

    Thanks in advance.

    Cheers,

    Antonio - Portugal

PS: The Titanium color was only sold in 2002 in the US?
PS2: Can anyone check from my Yamaha Serial if it needs the Recall program?

    Hi Antonio,

If it is an 02 or 03 model you will have to have the tranny recall (gear recall) done. Yamaha in Europe is aware of the problem. And all bikes in Sweden has gone through it. It is also a good time to install like high compression pistons. Will lower fuel consumption AND give you more power. It is perfect mod to the bike.
By the way I have just returned from Portugal after 2 weeks there. Beatiful country, I will return.
Let me know if you need more help, suggestions.

Antonio. yamaha was using a punch mark above the serial number on the frame to mark that the recall was done or not just by looking at the frame should tell you. It would be above the third number. I think.

Porto Warrior. The Warrior was only sold in Europe in 2003 in Titanium. There were about 1000 units shipped to Europe from Japan in 2003 and these models were manufactured specifically for the European market and conformed to European emissions specifications, they were not imported from the USA although some independent motorcycle dealers have been importing individual units from the USA since the Warrior's introduction in 2002.

I have found the best way to identify the US from the Euro model is the tailight, they are slightly different shapes (the Euro taillight sticks out further) and the Euro tail light also has a red lens whereas the US is a clear unit. As you do not have any pictures in your Gallery I can't tell whether you have a US or Euro model. Have a look at the tail light on irichard's Warrior, this is the Euro model: http://www.rswarrior.com/Gallery/irichards.aspx There is a chance that the red tail light may only apply to UK models, not too sure, maybe our other Euro members with the Titanium 2003 model could chime in..

In any case the Euro 2003 model still requires the gearbox recall but not the tank recall as that was only needed for the US 2002 models. The Warrior was not marketed in Europe in 2002 so if yours is a 2002 model then it would definately be a US import and would require both recalls. Yamaha Europe should be able to assist you with serial numbers and should be able to tell you if the recall on your bike has been completed.

Antonio, I'm sure that all 2003 models in Sweden are Titanium with the LED tail light. AS BritWarrior says, those lights don't stick out that much and look white when they are not turned on.

My 2003 Titanium has a clear tail light as well (look at my gallery photo). I had the tranny done and no more.

Thanks guys, it would appear that it's only the UK model that had the red tail light then. That makes it near impossible to know whether it's a US Import or one of the 2003 Euro imports from Japan. It doesn't matter really though as all of them need the Tranny Recall in any case.

    Hi everyone!

Thanks a lot for the quick answers. [:D]

The tail light is white when off. I did talk to the ex-owner and he told me that the bike was recalled and went to the Yamaha dealer to do the gear service.
I dont doubt him, but.... did not find the "mark" on the serial number on the "chassis".[xx(]

I mean... i believe he is not crazy to tell me he did this without doing it specialy when he did about 8000Miles with the bike, but just in case i would like to confirm.
Dont want to have the rear wheel blocked at 100 miles per hour![:p]

About the year, i check on the Bike papers, and it says 2003, so i suspect in 2003 they probably made an "European" version of the 2002 US version.

What was the tank problem? Liking gas? Something serious?
Honestly, i wanna have fun with my warrior, not going for a ride with both "balls" in my hands! ;)

Thanks in avance to all off you.[8D]

    Warmest regards from Porto,

    Antonio aka Porto-Warrior

By the way, 2 "fast" questions: How many Galons or litres is normal for the warrior to "drink"?
My warrior only made 146km (90 Miles) from a full tank, and i rided "normaly"...

...and i found a quite strange noize like a little "tim tim tim" from (i believe) the rear cilinder, like a valve or something inside problem.
Its very subtile, but is this normal? This bikes make a lot of noises!!!
Not usesed anymore to air cooled systems.. ;)

Contact Yahama and give them your serial number, they will be able to tell you if the recalls were performed.

Hi Antonio, a Warrior without engine mods can have the mileage you describe, meaning fuel warning light comes on at about 150 kms. So no worries.
The noise is harder but the beast makes a lot of noise. Get rid of the stock ai-box and change exhaust and enjoy that music instead.

There was excess vibration between the frame & the tank on the 2002 models and Yammi was worried that the rear tank mount could crck so I believe that a rubber washer or spacer was fitted to the rear/underside of the tank somewhere. This does not apply to 2003 and onward models, only 2002.

I would still call and check with yammie europe, IF they dont have record of the bike being fixed for the recall, you could have it done again, then you could upgrade the pistons and the roadstar 5th gear. might be worth checking into.

    HI again!,

Guys thanks a lot for the tips! They are extremely welcome. [:)]

About the "noise" upgrades! I wonder if there is a proper online store in Europe to order stuff for the Warrior. [:D]
In the US i see theres a lot to choose from, but ordering to Portugal, means hi prices on transport, plus exageranted taxes at custums.... So a 500USD muffler can easily be 1000USD/850Eur (or more) to be in my hands! [:(]
Is there SpeedStar accessories available in Europe? Any site to order it from?
I realy like the looks os the exaust sistem from the stage IV upgrade...but for sure its really noisy and i dond want the cops to stop me all the time because of it![}:)]

Regarding the Recall program, I will send an e-mail to Yamana Europe and lets see what they reply! [xx(]
You think the serial umber will be enough?

Fib_78, what do you mean with the 5th gear upgrade? [?]
Is there an upgrade that usualy people take this oportunity to make it and reduce hand labour costs? What is the advantage of it? [:I]

    Keep the good vibes!

    Warmest regards from Porto,

    Antonio

Many have taken the opportunity to install the 5th gear from the Roadstar. This gives you higher gearing and lowers the rpm on the 5th gear. And that lowers fuel consumption.
