Custom filter for my air intake!! UPDATE!!

Well, I managed to figure out a filtration system for my custom air intake. After a full week of running around all the hardware mega-stores in town, I came up with the following stuff, which is not bulky, not ugly, and hopefully will do the job, that is, filtrate the air that goes into the inner airbox, but not restrain the flow.

As a first test, I just wrapped some Whirlpool hood filter around the ingoing tubes ends with duct tape. Couldn#%92t tell the difference in performance of the bike between the no-filter-at-all tubes and the gagged version. Well, just some more backfiring in gagged mode. Plus, some melting of the edges of the duct tape that was closest to engine heat.

Then, I just found these gizmos, err, filters for some gardening watering device. Split the Whirlpool hood filter (made of two layers, one black, one white, the white layer being denser as material) and cut the denser white layer to the right shape to fit inside the metal gardening filter. Three staples on each to make tubes of them, and stuffed the fabric inside the metal filters. Also grinded a bit the plastic edge of the metal filters to fit into the tubes.Of course, no more duct tape, maybe a metal collar. Tomorrow will put the air intake back on the bike and will take it for a spin whenever outside temperature will go above 30 degrees F.

Today I also ordered two K&N RC-1290 filters for my DIY BAK.

lagalaxy, they go into the inner airbox. When I'll get the K&N's for my BAK, then I'll see if my custom filters still fit into the right side.

I don't remember we ever had MacGyver on TV here. Now you made me curious about the show. Well, after one year of posting before getting a Warrior, and 7 months of running an 100% stock Cerulean, I finally got the mod disease, and mostly from my conversations with XZVS (remember him?!) and Audio77. Actually it's Sanghator who stirred me up the most, when he kicked my ass for expressing my opinion on some topic here, without having any other mod on my bike than the Viper alarm.

Did some more work on the style side of my air intake, plus an extra filter at the entrance to prevent flies, debris, small UFOs and birds clog my final filters. Will also drill one hole on the outside angle of each of the tubes for allowing water drip off.

not sure you understand how it all works with the DIY BAk but you dont need filters on those once you do the BAK. what you have there will be decorative mainly at that point.

audio, when I'll get my K&N's I'll cut off the rubber mouth of the inner box, remove the inner airbox, put back the rubber mouth (at the original spot) where these tubes will get into, like they do now.

huh? Well, in my opinion, MickeyD, my air intake is an EVO, compared to that parabolic antenna on a stock Warrior's right side. At least I got rid of that boring Roadstar classic cover and figured out something, I may say, original, so to speak. I also considered that Speedstar box, but finally said, NO. And my original mods will not stop here, hang on to your seats!!

with the bak all that S$%^ is removed, the filters are mounted directiy on the throttle bodies, so your lil setup there would be decor once u did a bak - doing nothing but looks

Isn't chrome nothing but looks?! Or 240 rear tires? I dunno, maybe it's just a weird feeling, but there's too much acidity in the posts ref. my air intake mod. Maybe I should have taken a loong vacation after my stock can mod. . and use my camera on something else than share with you, in extenso, how I made my air intake.

From now on will only post images of my modded bike in the gallery. No more details and pics of my modding processes.

    Merry Christmas to you all!!

PS. I think I broke a record! Getting pissed off on three different forums in less than three days!
