Just posting this up out of concern for any Warrior Rider's who have had their rear pulley or as Yamaha labels it "the drive sprocket" chromed or did a chrome exchange. The pictures are off a chrome exchange rear pulley/sprocket for a 2002 Warrior. I always thought that the rear pulley/sprocket was a single molded pulley/sprocket. I never knew it was a 2 piece rear pulley. The pulley section with the 70T and the other section I am going to call it a inner retaining ring for the belt. This part separates from the main pulley/sprocket as you will see in the pictures provided below and is held in place by 6 very small allen head bolts.
My determination along with 2 others present have come up with the possible scenarios of this near miss and need to put this out here for you folks to inspect their rear sprockets
ASAP.
1) Only 1 allen head bolt was replaced after chroming when both parts were mated together.
or
2) The other 5 allen head bolts were never tight and fell out after being mated together and or no lock tite was used.
After inspecting the rear sprocket upon disassembly I noticed that the other 5 allen bolt holes were never re-tapped after chroming, thus leading me to speculating that the bolts were never installed after chrome.
BTW, this happened at highway speeds exceeding +80 mph.
This picture shows what happened to the ring where the 1 bolt was securely attached. It ripped right through the inner retaining ring and than separated from the actual pulley/sprocket.
