hmmm, this feels like the radical islam thing where these people live amoung us, become friends with us and then when we least expect it cut us to pieces. according to sources he had a brother? or someone he lived with that looked just like him? any idea if he's been detained for questioning? Also clips of interviews from neighbors talking about the typical muslim or arabic prayer signs around their home....man this stinks of radical islam! I know how "type casting this sounds" but like Goerge Carlin says....if it looks like dog sh!t  and it smells like dog sh!t, it must be dog sh!t!!!

born in this country or not, it feels more and more like anyone with family ties to islam, muslim and the whole gihad thing has it out for the western world.

Or maybe......just maybe he was fucking crazy!

That's the safe, comfortable, correct explanation isn't it? "Crazy" transcends all colors, sexes and cultures so you don't run the risk of offending anyone (except other crazy people I guess).

Actually pointing out that he was associated with a group of people that conciously(sp) while being totally sane, advocate the murder of anyone who doesn't believe as they do, requires that you do all sorts of ugly things like point a finger, take a stand, state a right from a wrong, place blame, point out that someone actually fits a profile.

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091106/ap_on_re_us/us_fort_hood_shooting

Soldiers who witnessed the rampage reported that the gunman shouted "Allahu Akbar!" — an Arabic phrase for "God is great!" — before opening fire, said Lt. Gen. Robert Cone, the base commander. He said officials had not yet confirmed that Hasan made the comment before the shooting spree.

"The Associated Press, quoting federal law enforcement officials, said Hasan had come to their attention at least six months ago because of Internet postings that discussed suicide bombings and other threats. The officials said they were still trying to confirm that he was the author."

    Re: Tragedy at Ft. Hood!

The good news is nobody was offended. Yes people died, but what if the feds went after him before the crime? My goodness, that would be offensive to some people! We don't want that. The world is candy canes and unicorns. Dead people OK, but looking into potential terrorists based on origin of a name and things that person said? My goodness me!

Wake up America! Think of each of the families affected by this. Then think of the extended families of the dead an wounded. I think they're a little offended now, but somehow that's OK with a whole bunch of Americans, as long as no one was profiled.

Name me a time when any 8 year old Asian girl blew up a plane? How about a 96 year old white lady? Hmm. but we better use RAMDOM searches at airports. Muslim man between 18 and 35? Well, let see the majority of terrorist have turned out to be Muslim men between 18 and 35, but the search needs to be RANDOM so we don't OFFEND anybody. So, let that Muslim man go with out a search please.

I hope all the people who hate profiling never give a description of their thief, robber or attacker. We wouldn't want the police to go looking for the fat white man in chef outfit if that was the attacker. Might be offensive to fat white chefs. Better to tell the police you don't want them singling any particular group out. they should search all toddlers and elderly of all races. Hey, the crime may go unsolved and the criminal free to commit the deed against another man woman or child, but at least no one would be offended.

    Is it just me?

Well your rant convinced me. Let's strike while the iron's hot. Start building the interment camps now. Round up everyone with a mulsim background. Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not coming to get you. Once we get that bunch cleaned up we can go after the next group who hit the radar screen. Personally I'd like to see all religious freedom banned.

I AM extreme and extremely upset by this. Paranoid? I don't know. I didn't take a post about profiling the appropriate groups and jump to the conclusion of internment camps.

BUT, if I had no reasonable argument to make against profiling, I suppose I would have done the same.

C'mon Meatball - you know better than to create straw-man arguments.  He's not talking about discrimination or internment camps.  He's talking about paying closer attention to certain groups based upon disproportunately high levels of criminal activity within those groups.  You have to follow the evidence wherever it leads, even though doing so will upset some people.

If your car gets stolen, was it more likely the shady guy who runs a chop-shop out of his garage, or his next-door neighbor the accountant?  You're not going to automatically throw the shady guy in jail, but you'll probably check him out first.  Some people would call that "profiling".  I'd call it "good detective work".

Was it that big of a jump? You went from one mentaly ill individual to racial profiling (by the way the guy was born and raised in the states). I just tried to show how dangerous talk like that can be. It's a slippery slope weather you admit it or not. Where do you draw the lines? Who ultimately decides? With great freedom comes a lot of undesirable garbage. Let's not trade freedom for comfort. By the way, this guys a great example. How would you have profiled him? Middle aged American wearing the uniform, maybe they should all be made to wear some sort of mark, say  a crescent moon on their chests so they can be distinguished from "Normal" folk. Just curious, you make it sound so safe.

Agreed. I would say follow the facts, what details point in what direction. You would be more worried about your brother who is a junkie stealing from you to get his next fix then you would be then your other brother who is just broke and cant find a job.
