    oxidation and rust

My bike was stored in Georgia for 18 months, now it looks like crap. the biggest concern is the hand controls and the foot controls as well as some surface rust on the bolts. the controls are covered in white chalky residue that will not go away. I have tried a polishing wheel on my dremmel and it would not be a fast process, just checking if anyone knows of a better way. Any ideas would be appreciated.

first sand the parts until the white is gone ,with say 600 grit paper wet would be best ,then go to 1200 paper grit, then polish with a good polisher not a little dremil tool it will take rouge and several types of colors or grits to get a real nice shine on the aluminum parts that have that problem you described ,but with a little work it will be better then before and use some billet polish to keep it up.  before you know it you will be sanding and polishing more parts on the bike .most all of the warrior is aluminum so polish away . btk572

Take the parts off and send them to Cadfather.  He knows how to get the parts looking right.  Has to, since he lives in GA.   LOL

I know the voices aren't real, but they do have some good ideas.

    I feel your pain man...

Here in PR rust is a mayor concern... I think that all that CO2 from the global warming is also accelerating the rust process.Stick out tongue

I could never let the bike go more than a couple of weeks without a wash and polish or something will blow up!

Which reminds me... it's about that time again...

mine runs weekly even on rainy days, to me, just only seeing the bike in my garage the blood pressure raises and everything is left behind, I need to ride it right away to lower the pressure... that is for real...

This won't help now but maybe for the future. I put a light film of WD-40 on the bike about every

week or two. When I put her away for the winter I put a heavier coat on.

Thanks for the ideas. I was hoping for a simple solution but it seems I will have to polish the pieces. At least thy will all look good when I'm done! And by the way I am just as anal about maintanence as anyone, I was deployed and unable to check on her. I washed waxed and put WD-40 on bolts before I left it just didn't fully protect her for as long as I was gone.

Just a quick question to help those of us who may be able to stop this before it happens. Do you have the stock grips and foot controls or aftermarket? I have noticed some rust on the hardware on my Supreme Legends and took the hardware out, sanded off the rust the best I could and sprayed the heads of them with an enamel to keep it from happening again.

    At my signal... UNLEASH HELL!

    Re: oxidation and rust

I decided to polish all the controls and use naval jelly to remove rust. I purchased some engine enamal gloss black and ceramic-chrome to paint all the bolts before I put them back on. The bad thing is with work being hectic it will take me a few weeks to get it done.
