    Powder coating wheels?

What's involved with getting the factory warrior wheels powder coated? Exactly how far do they have to be torn down before taking them to the shop? Also do the bearings have to be removed? I am thinking about getting the front wheel, back wheel and pully coated gloss black. I would think that I would have to remove the tires. Are there any other prep tricks that I should be aware of?

Sorry, lots of questions, but thanks for any info that might help!Big Smile

You will have to remove everything from the wheels..  After the powder spraying process they go through a baking oven process from my limited knowledge. Just had the wheels on my wife's FZ6 powder coated to a Gunmetal Gray.   I would pull everything out of the wheels including the bearings.  Would not take a chance of running the bearings through a 1200 degree process and then trusting them to hold up while on the road at any speed.

Tires will absolutely have to come off.   Before the powder goes on, the wheels will have to be sand blasted to remove the factory coatings too.

They won't bake them at 1200 degrees (that's temp of a burnoff oven).  However, they wil have to be baked at approx 400 degrees depending on what type of powder coat you use.  Just make sure that it has UV protection unless you want your wheels to start chalking this summer.  WarriorDog is correct that you will have to strip the wheels down to just the wheel without any other parts.  You can rattle can your wheels for a short time to see what color you like the best since they will have to be stripped anyway.  Just my .02
