    Scraping Pegs

Has anyone lowsided their bike yet?

The reason I ask is that I've recently been scraping my pegs a little, and I'm wondering where the limit is.  On one turn last weekend I had to go wide a little because the right peg was scraping on the ground and I didn't want to push it down anymore, thinking the exhaust pipe might catch.

The scraping started when I switch to 190 RoadSmarts, or because the buddy I ride with got a BMW K1200, that thing can accelerate out of the corner alot better than the Warrior can.  Looking at the rear tire the wear marks are all the way to the edge (as in touching the edge), which means I probably only have about .5 inches of tire left anyway.  It's just making me a little nervous.

Anyway I hate to have to get a new bike just to keep up with my riding buddies!

    Re: Scraping Pegs

Lots of guys scrape pegs and exhaust.  I don't recall there ever being a mention of a low side but then my memory isn't worth a damn.  I don't think you'll be able to keep up with that 1200 as long as he is as good a rider as you are.

LOL, Reminds me of a fella with an Indian.  What a PITA to be behind this Indian with his "FIXED" Pegs about two inches off the ground.  He would come to a near stop on every turn 'cause he was terrified of catching a peg and dumping it.   I guess saome Harly's are that way too  Wink Now a Warrior, if you ain't scraping you ain't riding.

Wonder if a 210 will help?

yep, keep leaning, you can scrape pegs, exhaust, frame,  i dont like scraping frame, you really feel that through the bike

If you are not part of the solution then you are part of the precipitate

    Re: Scraping Pegs

Scraping isn't going to be a problem. What you need to be aware of is bottoming out in the corner and unloading the rear wheel. If you aren't ready for it you can lose it quick. You also want to be careful about your foot getting planted. I bought a new pair of boots this year and until I got the edges ground off they would catch the ground and my foot would get ripped off the peg. Just try and be smooth. You will not hurt it by dragging. I switched to solid R1 aftermarket pegs because the stock pegs will come apart after they grind down so far. The solid aluminum pegs just get a nice point on them.

    Re: Scraping Pegs

I wish I could use that much of my tire, but I scrape all kinds of parts before I can lay it that far over. If you are laying it over that far and only scraping the pegs, you can't really go much further anyway.

Excellent.  Admitting that you're afraid is the first step.  Big Smile

Don't forget to replace the steel peg feelers before you wear them down to the aluminum footpegs.  The aluminum footpegs grind down FAST!
