    another warrior down

This is a good news bad news story, well more bad than good. I was leaving a gas station onto a 4 lane road and taking a left. In front of me was a guy I have ridden with a lot so non verbal communication is good. I think I gave a little much gas and caught up to him at the turning lane. There was no traffic so we did not have to use the turning lane. Well I went to tap the brakes and the next thing I know there is a bike laying on my leg and a mirror on the road next to me. Figure I was doing between 5 and 10 mph when I went down. Still not sure how the front tire locked, there was no loose gravel where I went down and the road was dry. Few ideas I have is, with the tempature changes the tire pressure was off, I picked up something oily on the tire at the gas station, third the tire is due to be replaced so it has poor grip now. Aftermath is I will need a new tank, mirror, and if I decide to keep it replace the AIS cover. I have not had a chance to look it over any closer due to the injury I sustained. I friend rode it home for me that day and he thinks it is fine. I ended up breaking 3 bones in my ankle. The company I work for takes good care of us the 6 weeks of short term disability are not an issue. Only been a week now and getting mightly tired of it already. Do not have pics of bike yet but do have xrays of my foot pre and post surgery. They are not in a standard format so have not been able to post them or get them converted yet. Got the bill for the surgery today, $20,800, that does not include the hospital stay, emergency room care, or ambilance ride. There will be some more after care costs as I get back on my feet also. If I did not have good insurance I would be totally screwed. As it stands the bike insurance will take a lot of the med costs and my normal health insurance the remainder. My deductable was already paid for the year. The good of it is I am already thinking of new mods I never gave any thought to in the past.

Glad you're ok the bike can be repaired! It's def. a good idea for all of us to check our tire pressures right now the cold can play hell on 'em. At least this happened toward the end of the season. Get well soon.

Quick recovery Bro! I'm thinking that you may have had some sort of residue on the tire from the gas station. I know two people that dropped their bikes due to diesel on the road. At that slow of speed, on dry pavement even a bald front tire would stick in the turn. It really doesn't matter what the cause is though, as long as you'll be ready hop back on the horse that bucked you off.YesWink

Bummer for the bike, glad you are ok. You will have time to make the mods while healing. I know crap can happen at any time while riding. The first mod, replace the front tire!

    Take care!

Thank you all for the support. The will be back on the road in the spring and with out a doubt will have a new front tire on it. Week into it now and already going crazy just sitting here all day. Just need to make it 5 more weeks then i can go back to work. Take care all.

I put my enduro  down about 3 years ago,  to avoid slamming into the back of a city bus. (not wreckless, just looked away at the wrong time)  Tons of soft tissue damage that still hurts sometimes to this day.

    Good luck and heal quick!

Sorry to hear about your accident. It's a pain in the a** being stuck in a seat all day, but I guess it's better than some alternative...take care in the healing process and keep us posted on your progress - both yours and your bikes!

Sometimes I take for granted the health care we have here.  Sure 30% of my income may go to the government, but when I tore up my knee, I knew I'd get the surgery, medication, and physio needed to get back on my feet and not a penny out of pocket.

Glad to hear you're healing up well and were properly covered.  You hear some nightmare stories from time to time.  The coming mods to your bike is just an added bonus ;)

    Cheers!
