    drive belt snaped

Hey i was just wondering if the gates belt was the best aftermarket price for a new drive belt. Because I snapped mine the other day. I left from a stop sign pretty hard and from 2nd to 3rd is when it snapped. So I called my local yamaha dealer and the said 400 bucks brand new I thin that a little crazy. So I went to phats performance and they have a gates belt for about 160. And the bike has about 24000 miles on an 04 and its still the original belt from factory. I think that a pretty good life span for a drive belt.

Odds are this is the only belt to buy now: S&S-Gates X3N Carbon Cord Drive Belt #106-0359.  Its available in HD shops.

Have a look at the service manual for belt install and set-up so it can be adjusted properly.  There's a post by Frankenstein that is in a topic listed under 'Belt' in Popular Mods that describes a great method for adjusting the belt by spinning the raised rear tire forward and backward making sure in both directions the belt stays fairly centered on the front pulley.  Hang on.  Its hard to find since its inside another conversation about belts.  This is it: http://rswarrior.com/forums/p/20285/318908.aspx#318908

Just a heads up to you guys if you don't read Frankenstein's Belt adjustment response.

    • It's the rear pulley in question that should run fairly centered so that the belt doesn't rub harshly against the outer pulley flanges causing a clicking sound Wink ... slight rubbing on the flanges is acceptable

Some of the front aftermarket billet/steel pulleys have but one outside flange and all are considerably wider than the stock Warrior pulley as they were designed for the Road* 1-1/2" belt drive and the belt runs off-centered on those front pulleys Big Smile

I suspect that Arizona Warrior has made an unintentional keying error above so i've made the correction

As far as I know, mine is original '02. I've put 40,000 miles on it myself.

Great tip too.  On learning it existed, I sent a note to Gates via their website last spring and they responded I had to talk to S&S, who said they were selling them at HD dealers.  If they are selling them elsewhere - oops - my bad!  Although they were not yet in stock at the time, my nearby HD dealer had them on-order last spring so I figured at least I will know where to get one when the time comes.  It seems to be the belt to have for high torque motors.
