just walked away from a v-rod

hey all, i just raced my good friend. hes on his 2004 v-rod with 3300kms on the clock. me 2002 warrior, with 14000 kms. for those who dont know, im the guy running the carb on the warrior. 1st gear, v-rod ahead on accelaration, 2nd gear, v-rod still ahead but not by much. 3rd gear, a dead heat. 4th gear, warrior walking away from the v-rod. 5th gear... jogging away until the upper revs where the jog turned into a full sprint. we raced up to about 110 mph. that v-rod motor was pretty sweet but, down low, gutless!  we also raced from a 60mph 5th gear roll on. warrior was clearly pulling harder right from the get go.  thats my story and im sticking to it!

    Why you running a carb?

I think that he used to have a supercharger on his bike and this was the only way he could make it work.

I know the voices aren't real, but they do have some good ideas.

I want to die while asleep like my grandfather, not screaming in terror like the passengers in his car.

Congratulations.  Now share DETAILS of what you did to make your bike be able to walk away from a V-Rod that everyone generally accepts to be faster than a Warrior.  Could be that the rider of the V-Rod just isn't as good at racing as you are?  Maybe that's what happened when I walked away from a Warrior with my Harley?  I'm just sayin'...  Smile

Dude, I wish you'd quit beating around the bush and hinting around. I can't seem to figure what you're getting at but it cracks me up anyway

Well good luck with it.  lol  Wink  Seriously though, it sounds to me like your friend is the one that's gutless, not his V-Rod.  As you described it, the very opposite should have happened and my experience with a V-Rod, albeit very limited, kind of confirms that.  You might say that it's the carb that made the difference but a lot of people prefer carbs because of their more immediate throttle response so that would actually make this even less believable in a way.  The next time you guys are out I wonder if you'd be willing to swap bikes with him and ride it both ways so we'd have a better idea of what's up.  I'm genuinely curious.

+1.  Once that V-Rod gets it's wind it should be leaving you in the dust.

thats what used to happen in 2004 when my warrior was pretty well stock. im booking a dyno appointment for next wednesday. i should have done that months ago anyhow. ive been trying to judge power increases with comparisons instead of just doing it properly. sorry if ive insulted or mislead any of the members here. i will post the reults as soon as i have them in hand.I PROMISE.

my buddy has a new stock VROD Muscle with about 1000 miles on her.  My mods are listed in my gallery page (PR 110ci w/ hc pistons but stock cams, valves, lifters, etc.).  We did three pulls and each time I beat him up to 100 + mph...  All three runs were from a rolling start.  I knew I'd get the hole shot so instead I wanted to see if the Warrior could hang on the upper end....it walked from the Muscle by about 2-3 bike lengths max, about 1 bike length min...

The mags post an 11.38 1/4 mile for the Muscle.

I think we both ride fairly equal, with perhaps a slight edge to him....but then again I did shift w/o pulling the clutch...

With your mods I could see that happening. A local in this area with a full on speed* kit took $1K from a vrod owner drag racing.

But what if you want your cruiser to go faster than other cruisers?

And you're not saying the V-Rod had the upper hand in the lower gears, that's what makes the original scenario even less likely unless the V-Rod owner was just really skittish about letting it go to me.
