Well, Wyomingwarrior's build inspired me to get off my lazy @ss and get started on my front end clean up. Figured I have got a couple of weeks before I get my hand controls back from chrome. I got as far as I could today. I am going to have to get some aluminum to fab some parts up to get any further. I tore my tach apart today and got everything cleaned off the front end. Figured I would go ahead and start a build thread and just update it as I go. I included a couple of pics of me holding the headlight up where it is going to go, what do you think?

Here is what is inside the tach housing.

Here I am cutting the housing the tach electronics sit in to make it smaller so it will fit under the seat. The electronic board bolts to this piece from the back and then the assembly bolts to the faceplate that protects the tach face. I wanted to keep this protective cover on there so the tach couldn't get scratched I have plans for it in the future. I did need part of the housing to keep the tach centered in the faceplate. That is why I am cutting off the unneccessary parts.

Past the point of no return. This is the peice after cutting it in half. The part on the right is the peice I will be re-using to center the tach in the faceplate housing.

I put it the tach back in the partial housing, wrapped it in bubble wrap and taped it up with electrical tape. Then I stuck it where the tool bag was under the seat.

Here are some pics of where the headlight will be. I will start fabbing a bracket up this week. The headlight is a 5 3/4 light. What do you think?

Hey Brandon that looks great so far!  I am interested in seeing if your headlight bracket needs to be any different due to the raked trees.  Your bringing back some good memories with those photos and making me want to move forward with some pending mods of my own.  Nice work!

Thanks Brian, I am assuming you were the innovator of this mod. I have been very envious of your front end for some time now.

Can you tell me, are the two switches that were in the tach housing, (Whatever they say, Reset and something else) are they neccesary for the tach to operate correctly? I would rather not shove them under the seat as well if I don't have to. How do they come out of the tach housing?

Brandon... they are just pressure fit in there with the rubber. The chrome ring you see can be pried up ...careful it is very easy to scratch the black facing. The top chrome ring and rubber slip off exposing the switch which still sits in a rubber cup. you can ..with needlenose pull the switch up to see wires ...or bring that whole rubber cup up a bit to see.

• Select & Reset PB's are not req'd for the Tach to function properly but you'll need a facsimile thereof to enter the diagnostic mode. You can leave the pigtails in a convenient location to couple up to them when required.

I would rather not shove them under the seat as well if I don't have to. How do they come out of the tach housing?

On a side note, you might want to pick-up the new Show Chrome switch box housings in lieu of dealing with the chrome plater and it's a cost savings too. The quality is superb IMO.

The other consideration to clean up the bars is running with the throttle pull-cable only as i've been for the last 2500 miles

I like the look of this Head light a lot. With the 7deg trees and raked neck it has the allusion that the housing can be tucked closer to the frame neck and appears to be covered by the top tree.

It does tuck back in the trees nicely. I actually have another 1" or so to play with before it hits the neck.

If I would have thought of that before handing them to the chromer I would haver done just that. He has already started on them though. I could kick myself for that one!

Looks great.  I know you had Racing Innovations do the frame rake for you and my question is:  Do they call people back or do I need to fax them.  I have a frame I bought to build another bike with and I really like the look you have going.  I am in Fort Smith, Arkansas are you going to BBB in Fayetteville?

I have called them before and never got a call back. You might just keep trying. It is only the owner, Sam,  and one other guy is all there is up there now and they are slammed. Sam is also the general manager of OKC Thunder cycles which is  huge Big Dog dealer. They also build production customs called Brass Balls Bobbers. So as you can understand they are busy as h3ll.  I usually end up just going up there and talking to them in person. I can tell you they never, ever answer thier phone. They are really good guys though.
