I had an 82 GL 11 for years and LOVED it. They are much quicker than most people realize. When that 1000 was released the only factory bike in the world that was faster was a 900 Kawi.

A word of advice CHANGE THE TIMING BELTS. If one lets go you'll lunch a head. It's easy to do. It would have been easier if you'd have done it when you had the rad off.

Thanks Meatball I did not know if this was an interfearance motor or not. Your saying it is so I will get them belts changed soon.

I just ordered the carb Kits. I saw an aftermarket intake that done away with the stock carbs, and used a single two barrel. That was kinda cool. We will stick with stock for now.

Dad brought a sample of the the paint over the other day. I do not like it. ( a true plum color with no metal flake ) Seeing it on the sample then seeing it on a body panel. Oh no. All I can say is pinstripes and decals. I'm trying to get him to annodize it. I had a rocket done once and that was nice.

Re: wing rebuild or boat anchor?

This weekend we fixed the rear brakes. The caliper was bad so we replaced it and changed the pads. Also switched the rear tires on the bikes and balanced them. The parts bike had a new dunlop 491 tire on it which happend to match the front of tire on the good bike. Lucked out there. Serviced the drive shaft and drive. The carb kits came in but did not have time to mess with them. I'll try to get them off and start sometime this week. Well here are some more pics.

The parts bike is starting to look pretty sad. I need to put the wheel back on soon.

Yes, he is test riding without an helmet, on a dead end street. Making sure the brakes work properly. Dare devil  (Joking)

Rebuilding carbs this weekend. Got them almost done, but have a little hold up. These looked pretty rough but cleaned up nice. All new jets, gaskets, needle valves and slide needles.

Problem is last person in these was lacking at best. They scarred the float pins to the point two were sticking and are not usable. Honda used a blockoff rubber on one of the jet passages. I do not know why but the plug was in place in three of the carbs but was missing in the one. What this plug actually does I really do not know but it is supposed to be there I checked the manual. At least we found some significant problems so there should be a real differance when we put this thing back together. Problem is now I need more parts and specailty at that so I will have to order.

The pics are not very good But here is what we have:

Now you are into the stuff that can really be an SOB.  I have had to order some of my V65 parts from Japan cuz I could not locate them in the US.  That adds to the price and shipping time!

I lucked out and my parts are on there way. Hope they get here soon so I can put it back together while I still have the disassemble fresh on my mind. I have so many other things going on right now. New water line to house. Sold my daily driver today, and had to pull my reconditioned 78 Ford 3/4 out to drive. New fire place install. Did get my new flat screen TV tonight, thats a plus. Just all kinda things going on.

got the carbs back on and running but have not sync or tuned them. Might have been better off building a boat for all the rain we've been getting over here. Southern Indiana 4+ inches in 24 hours.

Rain is good. It keeps you at home so you can work on your dad's bike!
