I've never been to Austin. I've heard it was cool. Staying at a lake would be cool if we could reserve like a whole section of campsites together so we wouldn't have to worry about a bitcher/moaner camped right in the middle of us.

Here is a link to Lake Travis. Looks nice. I don't know about camping though. I like that it is close to both Austin and San Antone.

Do a search on Hippy Hollow at Lake Travis and I bet you like it even more.  The Hollow is a great place to hang out and enjoy the sites.  If you want to camp look at the Guadalupe River, it has a lot of camp sites on the river with fairly easy access.  For the Holiday Inn campers they have cabins and condos up and down the river as well.

I can live without Hippie Hollow but still like the idea of the Lake Travis area. Lets here what the rest of you guys think.

Lake travis is great lets just hope they get some rain soon as it is low as heck right now. but ya its a fun place we took the boat down there earlier this summer and had a blast. There is also 6th street in Austin for those who want to get toasted and have a good night life.

I'm having an idea here.  Why don't we plan to have a meet somewhere in south Texas, either San Antonio or Austin in October. And who ever can make it makes it. Then we plan another meet in March or April for those who could not make the first meet. ? I like the idea. And the people that can make both will have more riding time, and get to see more people. And that way if someone can't make one meet then they are not SOL.

this is a link to the state park in Austin its only 5 miles from town  never stayed at this one but the state parks are well kept up and clean they have from just plain campsite through rv spots and group camping areas and all sites have to be reserved http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/findadest/parks/mckinney_falls/  here is some parks at lake travis the lake is very low right now and last i heard all boat ramps are closed http://www.austin.com/content/view/517/327/

Just throwing this out there, but if it's down in the Austin/S.A. area, are there really that many roads to ride down there.  Yes, there is the Hill Contry, which is a decent little ride from either of those two locations just to get there, but once you're there, I just don't see it taking 4 days to ride all the roads.  The several times I've been down there, I've hit pretty much all the really GOOD roads in about a day and a half.

Now Arkansas, I've been there 4 or 5 times and still haven't ridden all the roads that my buddies are telling me are "must ride" roads.  Not to mention that it is just way cooler up there.  Plus, I'd think that if you have it down in south TX, how many people out of stater's are you really going to get?  Heck, it's 6 hours just from the DFW area.

    Re: Southern Warrior Rally Discussion

Austin is only 3.5 hours from Dallas as for Arkansas all the really good roads are from Central to Northern Arkansas.  That is a lot farther than Austin.  I am not trying to talk you out of Arkansas because I can be in Eureka and on the Pig Trail in less than four hours and Austin is 8 hours.  You are correct that it would more than likely be cooler and with the drought in South Texas, Arkansas probably has more water.  If you decide Arkansas then we may be able to get people from TN, KY, MO, KS, LA, MS, TX and Indiana.  Who knows we may even get Ben from Insight Customs to come down and let us use his shifters as tent stakes.

    Re: Southern Warrior Rally Discussion

Warrior Fest at the Dragon is in April.  That's followed by what ever the Ozark meet is called.  That gets folks from the east coast and the Central US.  Why have a third meet in the same area?  Sure the riding is nice but that should only be a part of it.  If folks from IN and MN make it to Warrior Fest is it unreasonable to assume a meet in south central TX might draw riders from AZ, NM, CO and KS?  I'll bet those guys don't make it to the Dragon but just might come to TX.  Make it the fall so it doesn't make people choose, Warrior Fest or Little State Fest.  Move it to Oct or Nov so it would be the only show in town.

Brian, you really ought to edit your profile to swap your location and job around.

Yes, Austin is 3.5 hours from DFW.  But Hill Countryain't Austin.... LOL  Staying in Austin results in an hour ride to get to Hill Country (proper).

I don't really care one way or another, I was just throwing it out there because I don't think that there are really 4 days of riding out in the HC area.  Now if y'all traded in the Warrior for dual sport bikes, I'd change my story.  There are weeks of riding available if you are willing to get off the beaten (aka paved) path.

The man has a good point. Fall it is in my opinion. We need to spread the events out throughout the year. Riding is only part of it in my opinion. I can ride anytime. I am more in it for the meeting everyone and hanging out.
