    V&H Bigshot baffle mod

This may be useful to some or not but.. When I bought my bike it came with a spare set of baffles. I could not remember if the seller said the quiet baffles were on the bike or in the box. On my recent trip out of town, a buddy said he would pull my baffles and "modify" them because I wanted it louder. When we pulled the baffles, (which took about one hour for the top pipe and ten minutes for the bottom) we removed the fiberglass wrap. The lower baffle had one hole drilled into the end cap, about 1/4" diameter. We drilled one more hole into that baffle then put one hole in the top. After reinstalling, there was a slight noticeable difference in loudness and a deeper tone. We removed them and added one more hole in each. Very happy with the sound and tone. On my return ride from Colorado, I noticed much more quickness while rolling on the throttle at interstate speed. It seemed like I had lost a litle torque but that may have been from running in the Denver altitude. I will know more when I get some riding in around home. I still have the other set of baffles in my garage. They are basically honeycombed, rifled, hollow tubes. No ends at all. What are these for and is anybody running these in their bigshots. Curiosity will have me putting these in to see what they have to offer.Big Smile

The "honeycombed, rifled, hollow tubes" you speak of sound like the baffles I have in my V&H Bigshots.  I ordered the pipes over 3 years ago and never specified anything so I assumed they were the "stock" baffles that come with the pipes.  I only had them out temporarily when I was contemplating hacking (customizing) the pipes over the winter.  I never ran it that way (middle of winter) and ended up putting them back in.

All I can gather from what I have read so far in here is that the straight through type baffles (like mine) cut down some of the low end torque but give you more high end.  The baffles with the ends and the fiber crap seem to give people more low end torque and less high end.  I have no experience changing baffles and could have misinterpereted what I have read.  Anyone feel free to tell me I have it all wrong.

The baffles you have in your Bigshots are the "quiet" baffles and the other hollow tubes are the standard baffles. IMHO the "quiet" baffles sound deeper and better.

Hated the stock baffles in my big shots.... replaced with the quiet baffels and retuned for the change, the bike now makes much better off idle torque and is a lot more enjoyable putting in acouple of hours in the saddle and retaining your hearing as well.......

+1 - You modified your quiet baffles into non-quiet baffles.  The straight through baffles are the standard baffles.  I also agree that the quiet baffles, while hardly quiet, do sound deeper and better (IMO).

Those things can definately be a PITA to get out once they are in there for a while.

I have the Honeycomb baffles installed in mine and it's pretty loud. When I first got my bike I actually blew the top baffle out and then it got really loud. I couldn't tell the difference in the power without the baffle because I had only had the bike for a week when it happened and I only rode it a couple of times before reinstalling it, The only thing I do know is I get a fair share of back fires and pops with this set up which I don't mind but some people do. I have a PCIII installed as well and it still does it. I think you will find a big difference between the two if you decide to switch them. Some people like it loud and some don't.

    How bout them Giants....

Thanks for the feed back guys. I took a ride around town yesterday and I believe that my baffle mod has given me the tone and loudness(not overly loud) I was looking for with no "noticeable" loss in torque and perceived slight gain in horse power. Imo, this mods value will increase when I finally get Churchkeys vbak this winter for Christmas. (hope my wife reads this)
