i was involved in an incident at school (university of new mexico) last semester. i had just finished an exam and most of my class had gathered outside to swap answers and ask each other questios. well this really fat lady came scooting by and without any thought i said "hover round" kinda loud. the fat lady just looked at me and scooted by. i felt like an ass.

Looks like you were stone-cold busted taking the photo too.

Like many folks I'm overweight too, but I refuse to be chair or bed-bound and miss out on life so I'm active enough to prevent myself from sliding that far downhill. I love to ride, ski, play paintball...I'd never want to give those up.

I've run the Annapolis 10 miler twice but I'm still a fat-azz. I'd at least like to get fit someday because my face sure ain't gonna attract the ladies. Hmm

The OP isn't the one who took them.  There's actually several pictures of her with the last one being the woman leaving the pickup window and flipping off the guy who took them.  They've made their way around the internet a time or two before.  It's pretty funny at first until you consider how common that is in this country and then it just becomes sad to me.  There's a similar picture out there with a big boy on his riding lawnmower at the drive through.

What pisses me off is we give them handycap parking permits. We should give them special parking spots at the far end of the lot and station some kids with cattle prods out there to make them jog into the store. AND If you are so fat you have to ride a hoveround in the store someone should be inside to slap the crap out of you when you open a bag of chips to tide you over while you shop. I am no little guy but I will shoot myself in the face if I get to that point.

I pretty much agree with th ecomments so far however...There actually are folks out there with medical conditions that are not their fault.  I once knew a 300 pound gal, not all that much weight till you consider she was only about 5'1".   She did not eat enough in a week to keep a skinny person going for a day.

Yeah.  Does she regulary ride her "hoveraround" through the Burger King drive-thru?  Hmm Ick!  I realize some people have a medical excuse.  I'm being insensitive and guessing that the lardass in the picture might be fat from eating a lot of food that's bad for her.  Sue me.  Devil  Like Dice said, "Eat a carrot you fat tub o' sh!t!"  Stick out tongue

The only way one can get fat is to consume more calories than they burn . The human body cannot produce calories on it's own.  Big Smile

Re: You know you are too fat when....

Believe me I know how it is. A little over a year ago I weighed 440 LBS. I had gotton where I couldn't ride my warrior anymore and was beginning to have trouble climbing the stairs to the rig floor for work. I had to take naps every day and had sleep apnea pretty bad. Not to mention my bllod pressure was through the roof.  I was one of the ones that always said "I don't eat any more that a normal person, I don't understand why I am gaining weight." The fact is when you have been that big for that long you don't realize how much you are eating. It "seems" normal to you. It was nothing for me to go to Sonic and eat 2 footlongs w/ supersize chili cheese tator tots. Not to mention graze all day between meals. It finally hit home for me when I killed an entire family bag of Reeses in one afternoon. You know the huge ones you get at Wally World. I decided that day to turn it around.  I am currently down to 300 lbs and plan to keep going. I hope to get down to at least 250 lbs eventually. I would like to be 230 one day. Best part about it is going to the store and being able to buy pants anywhere. That is something you take advantage of when your thin. There aren't many shops or brands that sell size 56 jeans.

I guess I was just trying to say I know how she feels. If she does have some kind of medical condition though I doubt she is helping it by eating fast food.

Re: You know you are too fat when....

I will chime in on this.  I am 5' 6".  At one point I weighed 249lbs.  I went to the doc and talked to him about how I am tired all the time.  When I would wake up I couldn't really tell that I had been to bed.  I was always thirsty.  I didn't eat that much food in a day.  Maybe 2 meals sometimes only one.  Come to find out after a little test we found out that I had Hemochromatosis.  This is an inherited diesease (sp) where you body stores all the iron you ingest.  Mostly in the liver, but in the heart, pancreas, and kidneys.  This in turn has caused me to be diabetic.  My sugar was thru the roof.  The treatment for this is having a pint of blood drawn ever so often to lower the amount of iron in my bloodstream so that my body will release some that is stored.  Having this is like heavy metal poison in a way.  After starting the bloodletting, I dropped 20lbs for no apparent reason.  My sugar was still high though so I started watching the carbs that I am eating and I am now down to 205.

Now I have said all this just to agree with baclay9.  You don't realize the amount or type of calories you are taking in sometimes.  Weightloss is possible, but I also know a female friend that was tall and thin.  Actually she was a model.  Then the doc put her on birth control to regulate things and she ballooned up to over 300 lbs.  She watched what and how much she ate and excersized to no avail.  These pills messed with her thyroid function.  I saw her several years later and didn't recognize her.  She was back down to her old thin self.  She stopped with the pills.

There is ALWAYS something you can do to help with weight loss.  Namely your diet and activity level.  This may only take some of it off.  But the funny thing is, to lose weight you have to eat.  4-6 times a day.  Be active.  Get your heart rate up.

And for those that are naturally thin.  That don't have to work at being that way.  Who's metabolism is faster than an olympic runner and make fun of the people that are heavy...  I pray you never have to deal with being heavy.  It is easy to take for granted the things that require no effort.

    OK off my box now.

    Bill
