    DEER!!

Just clobbered a decent sized doe with the Peterbilt clipping along the interstate at about 70. Nowhere to go so I just lined her up and wham!! Minimal damage to the truck (about 2 grand) but as soon as it happened I said to myself. "Self, that's why we don't ride at night around here". Be safe all especially at night!!
I think I will not pay taxes this year...

Glad you were in your truck. I've hit a couple in my pick-up and had a close call on the bike.

I took one out once while I was on a bike.  Night time riding is strictly limited to in town now!

I try to take a couple out every year, but with a rifle. I see a lot of deer since I work second shift and get home after midnight most nights.

i hit a puppy on my motorcycle once. it was about 30lbs. i hit it and launched into the air and landed rough but kept it up. scared the crap out of me. i went up to the house and told the terrible looking woman that i thought i had killed her dog and she said no! our dogs are all inside for the night! then a tiny little girl came up crying and said " i let midnight outside" my heart sank. they all shuffled outside into the dark to look down on the poor dead puppy in the light of my headlight. the dad (a huge man in a wife beater) put his hand on my shoulder and said "you did a good thing telling us about the dog" then he told me to go on home and they would take care of the dog. i still feel guilty about it even though there was nothing i could do about a jet black dog on a dark street with no street lights.

Critters in the road is one of the two reasons I limit night time riding. The other is drunk drivers. We have a lot of both here.

Been there...I was more upset at the owners not being responsible enough to keep their dog out of the street than at myself for something I couldn't have avoided.  Still sucks though, I love dogs....and the little girl would have broken my heart.

Deer...I'm not so sympathetic.  It's just too bad it wasn't still edible after the hit. I used to live in PA and hit my fair share with my truck....a call to the game warden with your name and he would meet you at the processor to sign off so you could legally consume it.

Glad you were in the truck.

A huge one ran across the road in front of me a couple of weeks ago. No way that I could stop, I blew the horn an he moved just in time. Close call for the wifes car. They are everywhere, I saw about 6 yesterday on the way home. Somebody hit a big one on highway 58 yesterday and I saw a dead baby deer on that same road yesterday.

    Re: DEER!!

This is not a deer story but hear you go. Last week I am on my way to the gym when what I thought was a rabbit appears out of nowwhere. I try to avoid it but ended up hitting it (DRT). Well a few minutes later I see another one but its not a rabbit its a kitten and it looked like it came from the pick up truck in front of me. I miss it but the car behind me got him. I am thinking that the truck in front of me threw it out the window. Not a cat lover but I am hot so I pull her over only to discover that the kittens had crawl onto the spare tire underneath the truck. They were jumping off as the truck went up the road. The poor lady was very upset, I checked the truck over and they were all gone.

a couple of weeks ago I dodged a head on with one only to have a second one catch the side of my pickup and breaking a fender flare....about $200 damage.

    Re: DEER!!

I've got a pretty cool story about my buddy hitting a bull on his harley. He has a White fatboy. He was riding down one particular road that is about 15 miles from here. The brush on the road comes right to the edge. It is tall and thick. Lots of deer get killed here. He was on the outside of the lane like a dipsh!t with another rider beside him.  Bull stepped out of the brush 15 ft infront of him. There was nothing he could do. Nailed it doing 65. Caught the bull in the jaw right behind the head in the fleashy part behind the jawbone with his right hand. Sent him flying through the air and he piled up in the ditch. Bull fell down dead as a door nail. Broke the bull's neck! Shattered Larry's right arm all the way to the shoulder, collar bone, ect... He started putting that bike back together a few weeks later with one arm. License plate now reads "BULKLR"

    Re: DEER!!

I got a 3x3 buck (still in velvet) on a Honda 400 street bike when I was 16.  I was doing about 60 on a gravel road and all of a sudden I've got a deer in my lap thrashing around.  I actually did not go down.  The bike went into a slide and I got it back under control after fishtailing for a while.  The only damage was my headlight was broken and my rear blinker was busted off.  As for me my left knee hit the deer's shoulder and my knee swelled up pretty good.  I turned around and the deer was laying stone dead on the road.  I've still got the antlers somewhere.

That was 1990.  I sold the bike the next week and never rode again until 2007.  Deer suck.

There are a lot of deer out where I live. I hit one with my truck about 100 yards from my house once. I've gotten to where I wait for the sun to come up before I ride my motorcycle in to work. Yesterday I saw two deer on the side of the road when I was riding in to work. This morning two deer crossed the road in front of me about two miles from my house as I was riding in to work. They're ALL OVER the place out there.
