evilrider:
i hit a puppy on my motorcycle once. it was about 30lbs. i hit it and launched into the air and landed rough but kept it up. scared the crap out of me. i went up to the house and told the terrible looking woman that i thought i had killed her dog and she said no! our dogs are all inside for the night! then a tiny little girl came up crying and said " i let midnight outside" my heart sank. they all shuffled outside into the dark to look down on the poor dead puppy in the light of my headlight. the dad (a huge man in a wife beater) put his hand on my shoulder and said "you did a good thing telling us about the dog" then he told me to go on home and they would take care of the dog. i still feel guilty about it even though there was nothing i could do about a jet black dog on a dark street with no street lights.
Been there...I was more upset at the owners not being responsible enough to keep their dog out of the street than at myself for something I couldn't have avoided. Still sucks though, I love dogs....and the little girl would have broken my heart.
Deer...I'm not so sympathetic. It's just too bad it wasn't still edible after the hit. I used to live in PA and hit my fair share with my truck....a call to the game warden with your name and he would meet you at the processor to sign off so you could legally consume it.
Glad you were in the truck.
