    Darth_Warrior:

interesting that instead of countering with anything meaningful, you have to resort to ad hominem (if you don't have sufficient "nuts" in your "sack," look it up, it's latin) attacks on the people you disagree with.  maybe you should follow with a wink and a "you betcha!"

Par for the course around here - you may as well get used to it.  Someone with a bible verse in his signature should be along shortly to question your masculinity/sexual orientation because you used big Latin words.

    Carry on.

Re: Palin Steps Down...Won't Seek Re-Election (WSJ)

Was she just thinking of herself when she quit?  I'm sure that palyed a part in her decision but maybe, just maybe she was fulfilling her duty to look out for the state also.

From an article in the Anchorage newspaper:

In an interview with The Associated Press, Palin defended her decision to step down after a year in which she has been bombarded with ethics complaints and public records requests that have cost the state nearly $2 million to investigate, according to the governor's office.

"You would be amazed at how much time and resource my staff and I, the Department of Law especially, spend on this every day," she said. "It is a waste. We are spending these millions of dollars not on teachers and troopers and roads or fish research and other things that are needed in Alaska."

Seriously? over a paultry 2 million? with a state with a 5 billion dollar surplus? Really? your kiddin right?

we call that a cop out and dumbing down the real reasons...its called spin.....somthing she has never been good at.

She couldnt handle the stress, she couldnt handle the pressure, she couldnt handle the job so she bailed. She wanted to leave on an economic highnote, seeing that the chit is about to hit the fan in Alaska economic wise and she didnt want to be blamed for the downturn.

also with the impending investigation on her house, and how they built it, and where the receits are is gonna bite her in teh butt, as well as her illegal dealing with Spenard Builders Supply to build said house to get the sports complex deal.

As a republican, i say good riddence....it was her who cost McCain the election. Heck even the GOP is trying to distance themselves from her, and appearances are being canceled left and right by repub governers up for re-election who dont want to even be associated with her for fear of losing their elections.

She is done...finished. Although i get a kick out of the Nixon references though....they are fitting....both were crooks and cons, who bailed because they couldnt handle the scrutiny....

next time i get a speeding ticket, i am going to try that one :) "your honor, don't you think that it would be a better use of public funds to pay for more teachers and firemen than to chase one little speeder like me?"  heck, didn't ken starr run up something like $8M trying to prove a blowjob? the point being that "it's expensive to investigate me, so why dontcha stop, you betcha" isn't the most compelling defense :)

frivolous claims don't cost $2M to defend, and i'm no expert on alaska law, but in many jurisdictions there is a penalty, sometimes criminal, for filing false reports.  plus, the state (and gov. palin) have legal recourse for abuse of process and defamation.  and really, that argument runs dangerously close to an admission that she's bad for alaska (she says these things as if the audience knows for certain all claims are spurious).  the unspoken implication is that she's mucked it up so bad that these dollars can't be spent on proper state interests.

You have got to be kidding! I voted for Mccain, but if you saw the same TV debates that I saw, you know why McCain lost the election. He undoubtably had the worst political advisers in history. I think they must have gotten to Palin also, she obviously couldn't get along with them. As for Alaska's surplus, maybe they don't think 2 mil is paltry . This could be why they have a 15 billion surplus in comparison to California's IOUs. Big Smile

and if you saw the debates with Palin, and then the numbers a week before and a week after being picked, you would see they lost the whole woman vote....but that is really neither here nor there.

i agree that she couldnt get along with her advisers....and if you do some quick googling, you will see and even be able to read the email exchanges, where if it wasnt for the advisers, she would have stuck both feet in her mouth at the same time, it was the advisers who really minimized the damage that she was trying to inflict.. Basically ever since Palin has been in the news, its been Damage control. For palins people and the GOP...

good riddance....and luckily i am in the majority of americans and republicans that are glad to see her gone....but of course she has her fervent supporters, ussually the same ones who though Bush was the best thing since sliced bread.....think its around 21%....hehe

Ya if there is one thing the American public doesn't want it's honesty.

All you have to do is come up with unachievable plans and talk with large hand motions.

When things don't go right just blame the guy that had it before you.

How's that whole economy and unemployment thing going BTW???

    Gitmo?

    Healthcare?

    War in Iraq?

    No forward progress you say??

    CHANGE..... America fell for it.

interesting that instead of countering with anything meaningful, you have to resort to ad hominem (if you don't have sufficient "nuts" in your "sack," look it up, it's latin) attacks on the people you disagree with.  maybe you should follow with a wink and a "you betcha!"

Par for the course around here - you may as well get used to it.  Someone with a bible verse in his signature should be along shortly to question your masculinity/sexual orientation because you used big Latin words.

    Carry on.

Ya because religious people aren't aloud to scrutinize?

Maybe you should go play with yourself until you have an original thought.

they're allowed to scrutinize, just not aloud. :)

seriously, though, i think Damon is referring to something other than scrutiny, which is welcome...it's the "i don't like what you say so i'm going to insult you personally instead of argue the point" that Damon appears to be referencing.  i'm pretty sure that Jesus wouldn't express his disagreement with me by drawing an insulting parallel between my genitalia and my I.Q., but hey, maybe that part is in one of those apocryphal texts that haven't been appended to the KJ version yet :)

Palin is a lightweight - she is such an easy target to go after whenever she gets in front of a microphone, I will really miss her.  I can only hope she runs in 2012.  Listen to Liz Trotta (hardly a liberal!) of FAUX News absolutely skewer Palin in this interview.  I totally agree with Liz, especially the point she makes about Palin using her good looks to give her legitimacy among conservative men (Pep, she is talking to you here)...as if conservative Republicans have problems getting support from white middle-aged males in a national election!

Here are some choice quotes from the interview describing Palin:

"...it's very easy to say that the liberal media is caving in on her...but she has given them a lot of raw meat. The woman (Palin) is inarticulate, under-educated....a lot of this criticism (of Palin) is well deserved."

"This is one of the rare cases where I think all the liberal stylists like Maureen Dowd and Gail Collins,...really have a case.   ...She (Palin) just begs for adjectives like "flaky" and "wackey"..."

"This is a woman who used her good looks and her gender to get ahead in the political world...  So what are we talking about here? We're not talking about a great statesman of profound experience, whose banner is integrity.  We are talking about somebody (Palin) right from the get go, who has been a flashy person, who gets into a lot of trouble, and really has no credentials for any job."

Maybe she couldn't handle the stress, but I think you are wrong about that.  Maybe she couldn't handle the pressure, but I think you are wrong about that as well.  You say she couldn't handle the job.  I know you are wrong about that.   Did she do some things illegally?  Wouldn't surprise me.  I think you could probably fit all of the 100% honest politicians in the country into one very small phone booth.  And OBTW, I am not one of the Bush supporters you so admiringly talked about.  I think he was almost as bad as the messiah.
