WTB: 18x8 rear wheel 06 newer black

Hey, I want to do a Dunlap 240 on my rear with the DIY swingarm. Has anyone widened their rim to 8" and realized they want to go bigger? I know many of you upgraded from a 240 to 260 and larger, what did you do with your rim? I'm looking for a black '06 or newer style rim that is 18x8. I would even throw in my stock rim as part of the deal. I know I could send mine out for modification but I want less downtime, and hopefully a little cheaper. Let me know if you are interested.

I have a stocker for sale that you can send off so you dont get the down time, then you can send it to PE for the widening and painting. 3 spoker though.

You can send your wheel off to Kossman and have them make it 18x8, then you will need a Dunlop 240. Take away a little stock from the inside of your swingarm, and you have a DIY 240. Never done it myself but have seen several of them on here. Any bigger than the Dunlop though and you will have to have your swingarm widened.

I did mine in Jan. sent it to Kosman. I went 18 x 8 1/2, cost $675. Took 5 weeks, so there is considerable down time. I went 240 Metz and it requires alot of grinding on the stock swingarm for clearance. It turned out awesome. With the 8" rim I would assume the grinding on the swingarm for clearance would be much less. I have heard that they do sometimes have wheels already done for exchange. There is an exposed weld bead, I had mine removed and polished out at Classic Components in Santa Ana, CA. for $120. I had a polished wheel to begin with and it all turned out perfect. Just some info for ya. If you use the search function there is a lot of info on this.

I just ordered my tires, going with the dunlop 240 and the DIY swingarm. I'll probably go with the Kosman route, I was just wondering if someone had done the 18X8 and then upgraded to something wider and still had there wheel lying around. I didn't want to wait the 5 weeks in the middle of this perfect riding weather.

I did the Kossman 18X8 with the Dunlop 240.  The rim works great with the Dunlop.  If you go 18.5" wide the rim will stick out past the side of the tire. I also left mine with the weld and clear coated it my self.  Saved another $400.

    • This sounds like a new myth to me Hmm ...  my Kosman 18 x 8-1/2" square edge weld-up wheel measured 9.00" across the outside of the rim if i remember correctly. The Dunlop Elite 3 tire when mounted is over 9.41" wide Surprise
    • I think you are confused with the sealing bead of the tire setting behind the aluminum rim and not fitting tightly because of the width Smile

BTW, Bruce aka Riverat has a radius edge Kosman 8-1/2" wide wheel as shown below .......

I suspect that the lip protrusion on the Dunlop 240 Elite 3 is because the factory recommended wheel width is 8.00" ;)

I think Bruce, aka Riverat, was the 1st to mount the Elite 3 on the 8 1/2" wheel here in CA for last years ride to Tahoe/Reno. It was at that time that i observed the exposed bead as did a few others :(
The up side is that it is a higher mileage tire than the Metzler and a lot less $'s but it's not as wide visually IMO!

+3 Yes ... taken from an earlier post Fri, Dec 19 2008 1:33 PM, How wide is raider wheel?

    AlanH:

Most alloy wheels are nominally 1/2" wider, approx, as wheel width is measured at the sealing bead.

Re: WTB: 18x8 rear wheel 06 newer black

I just took the side to side meaasurment..........the 2007 rs warrior is a 18X8 in stock size.........
Your sayin a 240 rear tire will fit on the stock 18x8 rear rim ?
And you say ya gotta do some cutting on the stock swing arm to make  the 240 tire fit on the 18x8 rim?
I wanna make 100% sure on that.  Because, If  you have to cut into the factory swing arm,,,,,,,,,,,
How much ? with a lil extra on the sides so theirs no side wall rub~ing or being too tight on the sides between the swing arm , & tire ?
Im up for that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have a plasma cutter and a tig welding ,,,,,,,,,,lincoln precission tig 275  ................
Im gonna have to ask my mechanic about the stock swing arm on my 07 rs warrior. Its got room ,,,,,,,,,,,I thank.
HUMMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmm u Hummmmmmmm! I gotta  check on it. 240 sounds dam good!

    Chip,

Stock size rear wheel for all year Warrior is 17x6.

Kossman widens the wheel to 8" and makes it an 18" wheel. 240 tires are made for 18" wheels.
