Got bike back from dealer and....

So took my warrior in for tps and pick up recalls on saturday 6/6, had an appointment for tuesday 6/9.  Dealer said if they get to it early great otherwise it will definitely be worked on tues.  Tuesday comes and goes, I call wednesday 6/10 about 5 p.m., since no one called, asked if bike was done and was told it was and was ready to be picked up. After work on thursday 6/11, the wife, kid, and I head to get the bike, as we're pulling into their lot about 5:30 p.m. (they close at 6), we see somone pulling out of lot on MY BIKE!  So trying to keep my cool (I think I did a good job of that) I went in to the service department and said I was there to pick up my warrior.  The guy that was there proceeded to look around the shop then as he was headed out the door i told him some guy's out riding it. I stated that I called yesterday and was told it was done and ready to be picked up so why is someone out riding it.  He answered that was a good question and informed me he was the one I talked to yesterday and he'll ask why the bikes out.  After the bike returned, he asked the mechanic why the bike was out and the mechanic said he was checking a miss that he noticed and just wanted to make sure it was right.  I was told this by the first guy I talked to and he assured me they don't just take bikes out for joy rides (although he seemed pretty nervous while telling me this).  I asked if there was any paper work and he stated it was Yamaha's and there was no charge for the work.  I went to the bike and asked again if the work was done since no marks were made by the vin, which they corrected while I waited.  I also asked if all recalls had been done since I asked them on the phone when setting up appointment and when I dropped bike off and was told they'll run the vin and get back to me.  Is service in this world really turning into *** like this?!?  The whole kicker to the story is as I'm pulling out of garage, the mechanic asked about my forward controls since he's always like warriors but the stock pegs were never comfortable for him. I told him about what I paid and where I got them and started bike and left, the whole time thinking yeah you were checking for a miss.....right.  I haven't evn checked their quality work yet but i will soon.  So if you want recall work done for 'no charge' and promised they don't joy ride on customer bike go check out Van Wall Motorsports in Indianola, IA. because i won't ever again.

Well I can honestly tell you that at the dealership that does my sales and service....if they suspect anything is wrong with my bike while it's their...they take it out and test ride it. To be honest with you, thats fine by me....maybe they'll catch something in the process. I'd rather them test ride it if they suspect a problem then it have the problem while I'm haulin azz down the road...ya know. 9 times out of 10 you'll get a compliment about your bike and how nice it is. Every time I go in their they notice I've done something new...I appreciate that..especially when the service manager who used to drag warriors comments on how bad ass my bike is. Look at it this way...at last he liked your forward controls enough to ask about them. We do a lot of mods to our bikes because we like them...we also do them to get the oohs and ahhs from other people when they're like wtf kind of bike is that...What I think happened is that he saw the forward controls and knew that he'd be allowed to test ride the bike because of his service status....so he took it out to "wring out" a "miss" that he thought he noticed...in reality he was just checking out your sweet forward controls...maybe you've contributed directly to adding another member to the Warrior community! Big Smile Hey..your the man!..haha..cheer up it could be worse...he could've wrecked it...

O I forgot, before I pulled out of of the lot, I noticed the odometer set to mileage (I leave it on trip odometer and reset it when I fill up). They prob checked mileage, so I flipped it back to trip expecting to see about 71 mi on it like when I dropped it off but what it said was 4.2 mi. How many miles were put on before who knows. Guess that'll teach me not to write down mileage. I've just never had a mechanic on any vehicle test drive it more than 4 miles, I just hope it wasn't a 1/4 of mile at a time. If he wanted to joy ride on a warrior, then he sould of took the one off the showroom floor or maybe.... I should hee hee!

take it easy  there killer...I work as a technician for a mercedes dealership and we always road test the car at least 5 or 6 miles to confirm any repair and sometimes more for more in-depth jobs. trying to re-create symptoms whether complained about by the customer or noticed by the technicians can take a while. however for really extended (read 30+ miles) roadtests we usually get customer authorization.

I understand about recreating problems with roadtesting, but bike was in for recall work not to diagnose a 'miss'.

Your odometer was most likely reset to zero when they disconnected the battery to work on it.  My local shop is very good to work with and have always moved me to the first of the line on the little work I've had done.  I guess the case of beer when the tranny recall work was done has not been forgoten.  When I finally get the TPS, CPS recall work done, you can bet that I'll bring them at least a cold 12 pack of their favorite beer when I pick it up.  Its not any different than grilling burgers and serving beer for someone helping you with something on the bike.  You never know when you will need a small favor or something from them.  Might be why some people's parts are on back order and others have had no trouble with parts. Surprise

I know the voices aren't real, but they do have some good ideas.

I had my bike dynoed at the Harley dealership in Anchorage, only dyno around.  When the tech was done he very politely asked if he could take it out for a ride.  He told me he couldn't believe the HP and torque figures with it being a push rod engine and really wanted to feel it for himself.   I couldn't refuse.  My Warrior was talked about for a long time in that shop!Big Smile

I must agree with everyone else who responded I once had v-star at the dealer for a persistant problem I was told when I called about it that it was repaired and had been extensively ridden to verrify the work when I went to pick it up it only had half a mile more on the odometer like it was ridden around the block a few times and my problem was happening at highway speed I would allways like to see several miles put on my bike after service (20+) you never know what a fresh set of eyes may pick up that you don't notice.

ok i guess this thread went the wrong way, I have no problem with them test riding it, I assume that's going to happen. My problem with it was that they were 'test riding' it 24 hrs after i was told it was done and ready to be picked up.

Feel better I once went to the local stealer to pick up my bike and found it sitting in front of a 12foot black burnout patch with little leftover pieces of rubber in it.(as if it just happened). I went in screaming about abusing my bike and damaging it's back tire. I was very rudely told they had not done such a thing and it was from a mechanics personel bike. Yeah. Then why is my tire now toast? Well sir we noticed it was at it's service limits when you had dropped it off. Nice huh? You just never know what they are out doing. It only takes one little punk to ruin the trust in a service shop.  Clearview Yamaha, Mesa AZ. Stay away

Never take it to the dealer unless you just have too.  I have SEVERAL good bike shops that don't even sell bikes.

If you are ever down my way in the Tri Cities, call Ken's Cycle Shop.  Kenny Britt is a good guy.
