Idea [I] To all you newbees

    Locked Reply Contact

With what seems to be an influx of newbees and me being one myself I wanted to pass some info that I wish I would have known early on. This is in no way meant to insult anyones intelligence, because I am sure most of you have more expierence than I do, it is intended to make things a little easier on you. If you have a question about something use the search feature and if you cannot find it throw up a post or do both what ever makes you happy. I have learned a lot from people asking questions, even if they are redundant and could easily be found by using the search feature. It might be something someone else didn't think to ask so if you don't know search or ask.

    1. Churchkey makes a bad a$$ VBAK (Velocity Big Air Kit) to replace the stock air box and give the bike more pulling power. http://rswarrior.com/forums/p/51921/703555.aspx#703555

    2. Alan H, churchkey, and Arizona Warrior are amoung a few that really seem to have this bike figured out and usually help out whenever they can. (I haven't talked to them about putting their names out their like this so please don't flood their PM inbox unless they reply to the thread saying it is ok). If it isn't ok then I am sure one of these guys will PM me or a moderator will remove the post.

    3. Ram396 makes an adjustable lowering link kit for a good price. http://rswarrior.com/forums/t/29316.aspx?PageIndex=1

    4. bucky685 makes some very cool after market parts for the bike http://rswarrior.com/forums/t/52176.aspx

    5. Justice makes a nice side mount license plate and a side cover to replace the stock air box http://rswarrior.com/forums/p/121551/974565.aspx#974565

    6. The CADFather does awesome polishing work http://rswarrior.com/forums/t/128666.aspx?PageIndex=1

    7. Redhorses site has a lot of info on DIY mods http://www.freewebs.com/roadstarwarrior/index.htm

    8. This link has a ton of info thanks to Arizona Warrior http://rswarrior.com/forums/t/115929.aspx

    9. Here is a DIY list that wyomingwarrior has in his signature line http://rswarrior.com/forums/p/129336/1023931.aspx#1023931 (there is also a service manual (not owners manual) at the bottom of the list).

    10. The purple Motor Sports Super Store (MSSS) link on the home page is good prices in it and I think they offer a discount to members of this site.

    http://www.motorsportssuperstore.com/

    11. Posting pictures can be kinda tricky this link is pretty old and I am not sure if there is another or easier way to do it. Also it may have changed when the site changed. http://rswarrior.com/forums/p/1511/30032.aspx#30032

    12. Exhaust photo thread http://rswarrior.com/forums/p/114042/930175.aspx#930175

    13. Mirror photo thread http://rswarrior.com/forums/t/120028.aspx?PageIndex=1

    14. Bars photo thread http://rswarrior.com/forums/p/117662/950307.aspx#950307

    15. Last but certainly not least the Midnight is the fastest warrior out there and the 07 is the best looking one out there. LOL

Here is, for most of you, some no brainer information; dont do anything to the bars until you have taken the tank off. I found out the hard way and now I have a very small ding in the tank.

I hope this helps someone out. I'm sure I've left some things out but I think this is a good start. If anyone wants to add to the list by all means do so. If I listed your name and you want it removed  I apologize and let me know and I will edit the post and remove it. This doesn't even scratch the surface of what this site provides you with so search, search, and search some more.

Looks like a good sticky for the welcome mat to me.

BTW, you WISH the midnight was as fast as the titanium.

+1 to the search feature. I just changed my grips today and something as simple as a search for "taking off grips" saved my butt.

GREAT IDEA!!!Yes  This would make a good "sticky post" in the Welcome Mat.

I too wish this was around when I first joined for it took me a couple months to even realize what this forum had to offer.  That's why I created the DIY Mod List for all the newbees (& for quick references) but this thread is even better yet.  Thanks!Beer

I'm not sure about the '07 midnight claims, but I know there's a new leftover like that for sale here in CO.  If anyone's interested, you can call Silverthorne Power Sports at 970-513-1119.  They might be ready to make a deal.

They also have a new V-Max on the floor.

    Agreed.  It's now sticky.

It's a good post except for the Midnight being the fastest part.  Everyone (well who's not a newbie)  knows it's the original "midnight", the Titanium Warriors from 02 that were the fastest.  It was a problem Yamaha didn't figure out till after the bike was released.  So they slowed them down and made a Midnight version. Stick out tongue

Thanks for the info. It should come in handy. And yes I agree the Titanium Warrior is the fastest but then again I believe I have the 03. lol

    Re: To all you newbees

This is a lot of good info. I have noticed a large influx of newbies...(even though I'm fairly new myself). This forum has been invaluable to me in doing the mods on my bike and I have learned a lot from the people here. I did think of a few things that marty left out so I'll throw them out here. Buying parts for the Warrior can be a bit of a hassle. Let's face it, it's no Harley and Wal-mart doesn't carry anything that's not built for Harley..lol... anyways, here are a list of my favorite places to buy parts for my bike.

www.phatperformanceparts.com -They've always done me right, prices are hard to beat and anything over a hundred bucks ships for free.

www.pacificcoaststar.com -They are relative small timers but make good products. Not to mention they really stand by the things they sell.

www.orientexpress.com -Everything from turbos to riding gear

www.fuelmoto.com -The best prices for Power Commanders, hands down. Very friendly staff too

www.baronscustom.com -Everything you can imagine and somethings you can't.

www.starmotorcycles.com -Factory parts breakdowns, index's, and manuals.

www.pipecity.com -Good prices on exhaust and baffles.

I know that their are more that I am forgetting. These just happen to be a few that I've had some good experiences with. Others may or may not have had good dealings with them. This is just my 2 cents....anyone else have some places that are good or great to deal with it..this is the place to post it up for our newbies that are parts hunting.

    Re: To all you newbees

How about a couple links to 1) This is how to change your oil (with pictures) and 2) this is how to remove your tire(s) with pictures. I know stuff like that would be helpful to me. The seach feature is great but when you get 3000+ hits on "changing rear tire" it tends to get irksome to find the right thread that will actually help.

For you old timers on here changing a tire or doing an oil change is baby stuff compared to what you are doing to your bikes but some of us are relatively new to motorcycles and have to start somewhere. We'll pass on your knoledge when your gone. Wink

At any rate, just a couple suggestions to help us along. You guys are great with n00bs and I'd like to see it continue.
