    New recall?

Just seeing whats up on the recall that has something to do with the throttle sensor. I just got a letter from Yamaha on this lasty week, and havent really had a chance to look it over. Have any of you gotten this serviced? Or had this work done? Was it a pain and how long did it take to have the dealership do it?

    Re: New recall?

I got the letter last week also. That is because I did not have the recall done when the first letter came. It is an older issue, but my bike runs great, why let the stealership mess that up. The only really expirienced mechanic the stealer had is gone.

Mine is a 2004 and I do have some stalling issues sometimes, especially if cold.

I got the letter too. So I took it in this past Friday, since Yamaha urged that I get the recall done. (01/09/2009). My bike is a 2002 and they said according to their records, that recall hasn't been done yet on my bike (I bought the bike used). So let's see how long dealer has my bike.

Hey OBO, I see you are a fellow Kentuckian. What part of KY are you from? What dealer is doing your recall?

    Re: New recall?

I haven't recieved any letter, but my bike looks to have a punch mark over both the 1st and the 5th digit in the serial number.  Do I need to talk to the dealer to find out what these are or does somebody already know? Bike is an '04, I haven't had any problems other than I may have a pulley / shaft problem.

You can just give them a call with your VIN and they have the ability to check instantly if it's been done if you're not sure.  You might be like others and just decide it's not worth letting the dealer touch it unless absolutely neccessary but I chose to get my recalls done before they became a problem.

    Re: New recall?

I asked the local dealer about getting the recall done and he told me to wait until Jan/Feb when they have more time.  He also told me that he would put in "my oil" if I brought it and gave it to them.  Recall calls for an oil change I believe and I don't want Yamalube since I have changed over to Mobil1.  I've not had any issues, so I think I will keep riding until something starts to happen.

    Re: New recall?

I think I saw in a previous post once that one dealer worked it out so the member only paid the difference between what Mobil 1 cost and what the dealer got for the Yamalube.  Of course I think I remember one dealer wanting to charge the member full price for doing an oil change as well.  Either way I think if my dealer told me to wait until it was more convenient for them I'd be a little pissed off.

These will help detrmine if the recall work was done, or call the local dealer or Star/Yami and give then your VIN.  The data below is found in the Popular Mods post where there is added info where members discuss what each recall covers, and what model years.

Pick-Up Coil - Recall Mark: When done punchmark is made before the J on the VIN plate.
Pick-Up Coil - CPS - Mark: Crankcase rubber grommet has a white mark when recall done.

Throttle Position Sensor - Recall Mark: When done punchmark made above 5th VIN character (P) on VIN plate.

Transmission - Recall Mark: When done punchmark made above the very last digit on the VIN plate.

Fuel Tank - Recall Mark: When recall done punchmark is made above 4th VIN character (V) on the VIN plate.
