I believe all the old forum links have now been 'manually' migrated to new forum address code so links should act faster.

Richard (Redhorse) has re-established his picture hosting so the mods pics are back, including - for those who emailed about it - the inner fender shave.

    Re: Popular Mods and Repairs

Yep, I finally got around to fixing all/most the dead picture links.

I have copied some of the RSW pics to the freeweb server that hosts the REDHORSE RSW mod site.

In the beginning they gave ~5 MB total for the free accounts, but now they have alloted 40MB to the free accounts...I have space now to host the RSW pictures.

So, thus far I've redone the html pages for: AIS, Coil relocation, Quick mods 1 & 2. I'll update the other pages as I have time.

Time Warner purchased Adelphia cable network provider that I use. So, my orginal Adelphia RSW homepage from my ISP went down in 2007. I moved my RSW hompage site to Road Runner, but never updated my links in my RSW.com profile/signature here.

So, if you have problems with more pictures going dead on the freewebs site, try my Road Runner homepage links in my profile. My RR hompage has most of the pictures hosted on RR, since they give you 10 MB for storage. 10 MB isn't enough space for all the pics, but most of them are on there.

Eventually I'll get rid of all the imageshack pics. As they seem to expire after a certain length of time has past.

Thanks to Woody (Churchkey) for the excellent real-world explanation of how this old racers-edge mod relates to the Warrior motor.

i have seen the question about HOW to polish the hand controls from more than a few people.....but never an answer by someone who has done it.

by any chance do you have the answer ?   is it something that can be done with a Dremel and some attachment, or is it something that needs to be sent to a shop ?

    thanks !

Yes ... real world experience speaking here and not text book Big Smile Wink ....the easiest parts to polish on the Warrior are the switch box housings (hand controls) and clutch perch. These parts are solvent clear coated and can easily be stripped using a good Aircraft Paint Remover such as offered by Kleen Strip.

A Dremel tool with fine sanding drums and buff can be used to remove imperfections in the die casting such as parting lines and followed up with the appropriate grit sandpaper that can range between (240-2000)

Bench mount a 3400rpm electric hand drill to a work bench with a small cotton buff attachment for the task at hand. For compound i use BlueMagic Metal Polish Cream.

The smoother the parts are before polishing the better the results.

Hand Controls (Perches, MC, etc):  The link I posted above really gives the how-to steps and should have been helpful.  I'll know more once the next batch of parts arrive I'll be polishing these items too.  BTW I've found many great polishing posts out on the  web that are motorcycle specific with detailed pics.  I googled 'how to polish aluminum" and got plenty of handy info but I had to wade thru some product-specific advertising veiled as how-to.

Switch Boxes:  +1 w/alans post, plus I think on models with switch boxes having the painted switch function symbols you might lose your symbols - which could be good or bad depending on your desired outcome.  On my '03 the symbols are surface inked and would likely polish off nicely but if not, it would be okay either way IMO.  I haven't noticed if on some newer models the symbols might be indented into the box.

The December 30th update will include another post link under Pegs to clarify that the rear peg flip-and-grind really only has benefit on '02 and '03 model years because the '04+ model years have a relocated passenger peg from the factory.  Thanks to Infidel for showing me that while this seemed obvious to older members, its really not obvious at all for newer members wanting still more passenger peg space.  Good job bro!

Re: Popular Mods and Repairs, How-To Discussions

Notes from my Service Manual (all sources are trusted): [* denotes corrected or clarified]

Page 1-30 Instrument Panel:  Make a note that the Odometer's memory is inside the Speedo Head.

Page 2-2 Fuel - Fuel Tank Capacity:  Make a note 3.965 US Gallons (4.0 US Gallons including fuel in the lines).

Page 2-18 Bulbs (voltage/wattage): Make a note the Narva-brand H4 100/90 #P43T-38 works well in the Warrior headlight.  Many of us have run it for years, wifey and I run this bulb in all three bikes with zero wiring issues.  Its brighter, but its not HID.

Page 2-23 Drive Sprocket:  fix error: not 72foot/lbs so make it read 110 foot/lbs. tightening torque (verified by Churchkey).

Page 2-24 Handlebar holder (lower): make a note * Yami TT-bar bolt size is M12x70mm zinc. Need * bushings and washers under risers.

Page 2-25 Rear wheel axle nut M18: fix error: not 110 Ft/Lbs so make it read 72 Ft/Lbs tightening torque (verified with Churchkey - he discovered this was confused at printer w/drive sprocket torque).

Page 2-25 Rear wheel sprocket and rear wheel drive hub:  the 68ft/lbs shown is correct (verifed with Churchkey).

Page 2-26: add helpful info about the rear fender stay oem bolts from published topics:

         * fender bolts = M8x1.25 25 mm long.

         * frame bolts = M10x1.25 60 mm long.

Page 2-30 Oil Filters:  note member 'best' choices are K&N and Purolator PureOne.

Page 3-5 Headlight and Meter Assemblies:  Item 4 Tach Assy - side-mount bolts 5.8 ft/lbs torque, bolts are M6x25 1.00 pitch.  Can use hardware store stainless with standard button head if you have (for example) a Boulevard Windshield mounted, and possibly even if its just stock with no (for example) windshield.  The nice looking OEM bolts are special with a larger diameter button head.

These bolts seem to vibrate out, use Loctite Blue 243.

Page 3-9: The stock undertank airbox uses a K&N #YA1602-U.  Same filter fits the Speedstar right side scoop, but not the stock right side airbox.

Page 3-27: use a good 6-point 17mm stubby wrench for the engine oil drain bolt.  Same, or 17mm socket, for oil tank drain bolt.

Page 4-1 Front wheel and brake discs:  Make a note item #7 front wheel axle is 22mm (make same note on Page 4-4 Checking the front wheel).  Also note to remove front axle use 19mm allen, or the back-end of a spark plug socket is often 19mm.

Page 4-1 also note that beginning 2006 model year bike has radial brakes and some parts are not individually interchangable although the entire front ends with front brake systems can be swapped.

Page 4-11 Item #3 Rear fender bracket (left and right) bolt is button head Yami #92014-08025-00 (4 each) sorta special.

Page 4-89 Drive belt and drive sprocket:  change torque for nut #6 to 110 ft/lbs.  Make a note for Item #5 oem belt is 130-tooth

1-1/8" wide with 14mm pitch.  Its built with same capacity for torque as standard 1.5" belts (which are thinner) according to Yami (who knows).

Page 4-91: change: Tighten: Drive sprocket nut (from 72 ft/lbs to 110 ft/lbs).

Page 7-55 Injectors: Make a note that member Sam Vallas (Vall345) once posted that he successfully used injectors for a 2000 Mitsubishi Starion 4cyl as hot rod replacements for his race Warrior (which has 9-second official runs).  He's still around sometimes for questions.

These are the notes I have made in my service manual.  See also the Model Year Differences topic in the General forum, and this Popular Mods topic and the rest of the Technical forum, for handy info.  I hope this helps you, too. If there's an error in this I haven't seen or heard of it - ever - and everything I used myself I found was correct.  * Plus we've beat it to death to wring out the last weeping possibly inaccuracies so from here on out you are on your own my friends!  Be well.

I believe that you folks now have all the information I have about the Warrior.  Redhorse, Churchkey, Ratphlegm, and Frankenstein still have more documented info that they share eagerly no strings attached, as do several others (my apology there's not enough space to list everyone).  Its simply unbelievable how inspiring this machine is, isn't it!  Happy Grin Factor!

Re: Popular Mods and Repairs, How-To Discussions

The following information, ONLY, is submitted based on my hands on experience early on when fabricating a special off-set rear axle nut tool and the SS laser cut turn signal brackets that attach to the triple tree. The riser info is text book & boiler plate!

    Arizona Warrior:

    Page 2-24 Handlebar holder (lower):

    • make a note: oem bolt size is M12x70mm zinc. USE OEM provided shims and washers under risers per Factory Manual.
      • The OEM risers have cast in place studs that are integral to the riser and are M12
        •  The Yami Billet Risers come with M12 1.75p x 70 Lg Soc Hd Bolt
    • Handlebar holder (lower) and handlebar holder (upper) are the Triple Tree Pinch bolts
      • Upper - M8 1.25p x 25 Lg
      • Lower - M8 1.25p x 30 Lg

Page 2-25 Rear wheel axle nut M18:  M27  fix error: not 110 Ft/Lbs so make it read 72 Ft/Lbs tightening torque (verified with Churchkey -

he discovered this was confused at printer w/drive sprocket torque).

Page 2-26: add helpful info about the rear fender stay oem bolts from published topics:

    • fender bolts = M8x1.25 24.5  25mm long
      • I suspect the above is a keying error Wink
