NORTH FLORIDA YAMAHA (Yullee) - WARNING (F)

My boss was looking for tires for his 07 Venture, and after seeing the markup and 97$/hour labor rate @ Camden motorsports, (the local SE Georgia Yamaha Dealer) he went looking for another place, North Florida Yamaha, - Yullee, Fl.   It was supposedly affilliated with Ron Turner Yamaha of Jacksonville( I do not know personally, and is not fact).  They gave him a reasonable quote and he ordered the tires and pre paid,  He made an appointment for last week to get them installed.  when he shows up with his bike when they opened, they told him it may take a few days,  (what was the point of making an appointment) then he asked them about putting the air pressure that was on the tire - not what the bike MFG book said - and they gave him flack about that,  well we go to pick the bike up and he gets 12 miles down the road and he hears a clicking noise, so we got a trailer and brought the bike back when the place opened the next morning.

So, he calls the sevice manager later that morning and they give him a song and dance about a recall on the back axle spacers, He asks if at all possible to get whatever it took to make the bike right, and he would be there to pick it up @ 5 pm,  We looked everywhere and could not find any info on any recall on this bike. I told him maybe its an internal service bulliten,  So when he shows up @ 5, they can not provide any evidence of any kind that there was a service bulliten or recall, and they have not even touched the bike all day long.  SOOOO, by this time he's a little hot and expresses the displeasure with the service MGR who just told him there is no way he can tell whats wrong with his bike before closing time.  He convinces them that they are going to need to work a little over if that what it takes. they get the wheel off of it and find very tooth on the drive shaft is chipped,  the gears where not lined up when they torqued it down.  Ya know making a mistake is one thing, (stuff happens) Lying to cover it up is intollerable.

Update:  It was started by Ron Turner and he sold it to Nassua Powersports

I did not go with him on friday eve, but they told him they rode it and it was just fine, so Dave, (my boss) got on his bike and made a couple figure 8s in the parking lot and said you cant hear that?!,  So then they put it on a lift and tore into it, "well,  we will have to order you a new drive shaft on Tuesday, and it will probaly take a week to get"  So, Dave has a 5yrs YES contract and to keep them from charging to it, He called the Star consumer complaint line and got in touch with a Tech REP from yamaha,  He was very helpful and will make sure this Dealer is going to handling this problem,  He will not let them claim this as warrantee, and he found 3 of the shafts in thier inventory.  But the Yamaha guy was real nice and said "I know exatly what they did,"  and I will make sure they know what they did wrong and get them to fix it on their $

thats very interesting, kinda unrelated to the motorcycle but a month ago i had my yamaha 250 hp 4 stroke outboard in a shop in st. augustine for a bent output shaft and i had to battle with yamaha customer service in atlanta for them to repair it, they didnt want to warranty it because the numb nuts mechanic told them i brought it in with a rope wrapped around the prop, WTF!!! if i did wrap a rope around it i surely would have sense enough to cut it off prior to bringing it in for service.  i was finally able to get them to provide the part and i paid 1.5 hrs. labor but what gets me is that with the outboards there are only a hand full of people in yamahs customer service dept that you can talk to and if they say no then thats the end of it which is a bunch of b.s., i did explain to them that i have purchased yamaha products all my life but if they didnt do something for me that this one would most likely be my last, of course thats the last time that boat dealer ever see's me . i'll surely pass this info to all of my jacksonville homies Geeked and thanks for reporting, your such a good citizenBig Smile

Ok hears the rest of the story and outcome...

Like most shops now-a-days, they have one Mechanic and a couple of shop monkeys, needless to say it was the shop monkey on this tire change,  The tech knew what to do but took offence to getting called by the RTA the next day. This guy works for flat rate and he make his money by doing it right the first time and when he gets called to fix one of the shop monkeys F*ups it cost him money,   They took it apart and lined everything up and it went together ok, No parts were needed.  The wost thing in the world now is you have to deal with the lying ass Sevice Mgr and if you had the opertuniy to talk to the real mechanic it would all be better for us all.  and again, 1 more reason to do it yourself
