Won't start, fuel pump not on, blinkers turn signal sound

I used a heat shrink with solder built in to connect some wires.  Namely the blue wire for my turn signal/ running lights.

I also T - Tap the digital ground wire ( black/ white from the PCIII) and to the ECU ground (black/ blue).

Everything worked but when I was in class there was hard rain and then I rode it home.

I notice the turn signal didn't blink.

This morning I turn on the bike the turn signal clicking ( the sound when you turn your blinkers on) is always on. Surprisingly the turn signals work, but the sound is ever present.

Then the fuel pump didn't make any sound and the engine cranks over but it won't start.

I looked under the battery and there was an inch of standing water.

I'm letting it all dry out now, why the turn signal making that sound?

Why won't the fuel pump turn on?   I've checked all the fuses and connections and they seem ok.

I would say first let it dry out. Park it in the sun for a while and then try it again and work from there.

Sounds like a redo. I've never used heat shrink like that, but I did try to use the clip on connecter when I installed the PCIII. It cut the wire, Super Angry so I soldered it the old fashioned way and covered with heat shrink. It's been fine for over a year now.

All your electric relays share the battery box.  The signal relay is at the very bottom.

    See: http://rswarrior.com/forums/p/25375/371991.aspx

They were likely affected by the entering water.  You might want to take some precautions.  I've never had water in my battery box even direct hose spray.  If you can figure out how it happened we would all appreciate the heads-up.

Is the clicking sound coming from the timing cover area, otherewise known as the decompression solenoid?

No.  I'm all too familiar with that when I installed LED.  This sound is under the seat, it's the turn signal cancel reminder.

Ok I looked for the thread that did the Denso relay and I think I found the culprit.

Notice the BROWN wire (center picture) is completely eaten thru (the signature blue copper oxidation is evident).   Funny thing is that it's the only wire in bad shape after I got caught in the down pour.  Seems the rest are not copper or something.

I have jury rigged it with duct tape and crimped it in since all my tools are at work.

Looks like it's the "relay unit"  [13] , i.e. fuel injection relay unit.

I bet you are right - obviously - nice work.

Do you have the flimsy little water cover that goes on top the battery well, you know, the one that sits on top before you put the seat back on?  On the Star parts website at: http://www.starmotorcycles.com/star/parts/home.aspx

Part# 5PX-24796-00-00 is the foam flimsy water cover, and

Part# 5PX-82129-00-00 is the plastic tray that fits over the battery.

I wonder if these might help keep it dry in there?

I made this a separate post purposely.

Do you have any back fender or other water protection?  Or somehow do you think your rear tire is feeding water into the battery box like a stern-wheeler on the Mississippi river?

First of all, thanks Arizona for the relay removal instructions.  The bike runs fine now.   Yeah, that is correct.  This bike has a very air-conditioned battery box, it was not meant to be ridden in the rain.

But the weather here in DC is crazy.  I swear it's like 90 degrees by 8 am and sunshine for the next 3 days (according to weather.com) and then there's severe thunderstorms while I'm taking night class.  WTF

I do need to seal the battery bay.  Perhaps use dielectric grease to seal out moisture.

Excellent trouble shooting Yes and happy you found your problem ... that didn't happen overnight, it's been happening over the years. It's acetic corrosion and can be prevented with dieletric compond/grease.

The Warrior wires are all copper conductors and the molded battery box has a built in engineered rubber centering grommet for vibration and a 6mm drain hose that will prevent the box from filling up with water. You might want to lift the battery and remove any obstructions that are covering the drain Wink

I know this for fact after working on John aka Terminaatr's bike Smile
