    Bike won't idle.

I recently did the coil relocation mod and aftterwards the bike was running fine but I only rode twice since. The other day I noticed that the bike had a hard time idling when I first started it. After a few revs, it began to idle but not 100%. Rpm's fluctuated more than usual. Now the bike has a hard time starting and when it starts it won't idle for nothing. I checked all the wire and hose connections on the mod and all seem to be ok. I did a diag check and all seemed normal except for the TPS (7-93) and the decompression solenoid test D1 55 did not produce any response from the solenoid. Manual states the a clicking or cycling should be heard after the run switch is cycled off and on again. Any thoughts on this.

The first thing I would check is the Idle screw under the seat, if you havent already, it should be set at approx 900-1000 rpms.  The decompression solenoid shouldnt affect Idle.  What year is your bike?  There is a TPS recall on some of them and if your TPS is bad it might not Idle either.

Definately not an idle adjustment, TPS and CPS recalls done (not to say that it didn't crap out again) What seems odd is that before this happened I would hear the decompression solenoid go nuts if I shut the bike down with the run switch and now it doesn't. I'm thinking that the solenoid might be stuck in an open or semi open position and therefore loosing some compression.

Thats true, if the solenoid is stuck open it might cause tremedous idle issues.

In your case the solenoid syndrome (clicking) will occur only when the bike is NOT in Neutral and you use the kill switch Surprise

The stalling issue could be related to the plumbing of the LCV device! I would suggest checking all the hoses and connections associated with this valve as well as the electrical connector.

Do you have any fault codes?

I had a similar issue and it ended up being the LCV.... check the sensor connection and that the lines are hooked up correctly.

    Re: Bike won't idle.

I have double and triple checked the plumbing and wiring, all seem right. Like I stated, after all the mods were done the bike ran fine. I originally thought that something came loose. I do not get any error codes and when I ran the Diag, all sensors seem to be responding except for the decompression solenoid. The other abnormality is with the LCV. When I cycle it, it makes a noise that doesn't seem right but I'm not sure if it is bad since I don't know what a good sounds like. The best that I could explain is that when it first starts to cycle it makes a whirring noise and then half through the cycle it sound more like a clicking and the back to whirring. I blew through the hose and it open and closes whith the cycles. from what I understand it is a stepper motor so it doesn't just fully open or fully close,  I have an appointment Tues to bring it to Yammi and my ahole is already cringing. I can't bear to have those guys even looking at my bike never mind wrenching it but I may not have a choice.   On a side note, while I'm trying to keep it running It will backfire slightly sometimes through the exhaust sometimes through the throttle bodies.

    Re: Bike won't idle.

Ive read through this a couple times and can't figure it out.

    Heres My Check list.

    1. Could you have a damaged or Broken coil?

    2. Does your compresion release move or is it stuck? Are the wires Pinched behind it and NOT in the slot on the cover?

    3. Look at the cable going to each spark plug. I had to unscrew, cut mine back once because it was broken and NOT getting good contact.

    4. Do you have your PC3 installed according to olivers instructions or Power commander? If Power commander I had mine almost break compleatly through the yellow or gray can't remember tps wire and it was getting a disturbed signal and causing all kinds of issues with idol and black smoke coming out of the rear cylinder..

Hope it works out for you Carmine..

    Re: Bike won't idle.

    Hey Mike,

I have checked the coils and one wire was loose. I cut it back and reinstalled but no difference the PCIII is done correctly and the decompression solenoid is working properly. (opened both covers to check). I haven't had much time top play with it b ut I am going to try to download the map again. At this point I'm leaning towards a CPS failure simply because of the back firing. The bike acts like the timing is off. I'll play with it more this weekend if I have no luck it's off to the dealer on Tues. Super Angry

BTW. how you doin' ? long time no speak.

Lucky for you I have a Brand new CPS recall kit complete in my garage.. Its yours if you want it.. PM me your address and I will ship it out monday. The dealer might give you one but more than likely will want to do it themselves and that could be a nightmare I know all to well..

Maybe disconnect the PC3 altogether to see how she runs. Maybe defective.. Guessing at this point.. Your bike has the speedstar ecu so thats a fairly good map right there... Take it easy.. Carmine

    Re: Bike won't idle.

Hey Mike, thanx for the offer I might just take you up on it. I did disconnect the PCIII and I got the bike to at least run, it runs like crap but at least it runs. Right now it's at the dealer and maybe by the end of this week they'll be able to take a look at it. He seems to think it is the CPS also. Just for shits and giggles I contacted DynoJet and it seems that my PCIII has really old un-updatable firmware in it so I shipped it back to them and they will update the firmware free of charge. I'll let you know what the dealer says and if I will need that CPS.  Thanx Brother.

When you reinstall your updated PC3 be sure to use the software to set throttle to zero% first thing.  This is done with the engine running and  gives a baseline for the map file.  This sometimes seems to be a reason for no-idle and phantom troubles like these.
