I'm going back to school

As some of you already know, I've decided to go back to school. I graduated from High School 21 years ago and went right to college for 2½ years. My first major was Physics but Calc 2 kicked my a$$ and I knew I wouldn't make it to the required Calc 6. So I changed my major to Criminal Justice with a minor in Psychology. Thought maybe I would become a cop or maybe go to Law School sometime in the future. Then life happened and I left school.

Fast forward 18 years, my daughter is 18 and is entering pre-med and I think it's time for me to stop screwing around. As much as I've always enjoyed my job, I'm a shipping manager, I just don't see myself doing it in 20 years. It's a very physically challenging job, and I like it, but can I do it forever?? Doubt it. Plus I would love to find a job that pays more and is recession proof (don't we all?).

So I've decided to take a very different route. I've just entered Nursing School. It's a accelerated program that I can take on nights and weekends, so I can continue to work full time to pay the bills and eat something every now and then. In 5 semesters (18 months) I will have all my schooling and clinical hours done and will be able to sit for the NCLEX and get my RN license!

I started last week and can already see the how accelerated it's going to be. We are cruising through 2-3 chapters a lecture/lab and already have quizes in Microbiology and Anatomy and Physiology next week. They really need to put seat belts on the chairs at this school. LOL.

So far it's going well. I am pleasantly surprised at how much is coming back to me from previous schooling. Hell, I haven't taken a Bio course since 10th grade, nearly 25 years ago. I'm glad I took Chem in High School and College, though. If I hadn't I'd be as lost as some of the others seem to be when we start talking about atomic make up of cells. The school even took some 20 year old transfer credit, so I won't have to suffer through and Math, English, Humanities or beginning level Psych courses.

I'm the only guy in all my classes and I've only seen one other person riding a bike to school so far (chick on an R6). I am going to have to find a car soon, though. I will need something with a roof when the snow flys.

Wish me luck. I could use all the help I can get.

There was a bad nor'easter went through here last week. Lots of folks lost power, phone, TV and such. I was one of the lucky ones and didn't have any problems. None until Verizon got involved that is. On Tuesday morning while they were restoring phone lines to some where, someone screwed up and disconnected mine! I called them with my cell phone and was told they would not be able to get anyone out to my house till 03 Dec at the earliest. I tried to explain I really didn't' need anyone at the house cuz all was well here but the droid who answers the phone there just wasn't understanding. About an hour ago someone noticed the error and took care of it. I didn't know you could get DTs from internet withdrawal. It was horrible! [:'(]

Does anyone have any experience or recommendation on these? I'm looking to get something in the 26-32" size to go in my bedroom. I currently have a 25" tube tv mounted on the wall and I'm tired of dodging it every night when I go to bed. Currently only have a cable connection (no HD) and was wondering if it would be worth the money. I know the LCD's are cheaper, but the the LED ones are a lot thinner and use a lot less power.

My ex wife just discovered I have a MySpace page and wants to be added. She invited me to her Facebook page about a month back and then rassed me recently that "she was the only cool friend I have"! Well, since I created the Facebook page merely to snoop her profile I simply replied back that I have more firends on my MySpace page! This was true by the way. I have exactly THREE! My wife, a friend from down the street, and my cat Kallie (pretty sad I had to create a profile to be friends with! heh heh!) Anyway, most of my pals around here are generally not "into computers" very much (ok they're OLD!), and I considered simply finding people out there at random (through MySpaces "Search" functions) to load up my MySpace page - until an idea struck! I've got buds on RSWarrior! So, C'mon guys, help me out! Here's my MySpace page:

Beware of scam artists!

Last night I was watching TV when I received a phone call from a guy who said he wanted to lower the interest rates on my credit cards. I don;'t recall what company he was from, but he was well rehearsed and the background noise sounded like a call center. He said they were connected with Experian, Equifax and TransUnion and that since most credit card companies have chosen to to hike interest rates on all of their customers, he could get those rates down to as low as 3.9%. I was somewhat interested since I only have one card and that exact same thing happened to me.

After listening for a moment or two I decided to take control of the call and ask some specific questions.

1) How did he know to contact me?

Answer: The credit reporting bureaus send them names of people who have credit cards and are in the 700-850 credit rating range, since they are the ones who have been most affected by this hike. Not a bad answer but I know for a fact that he didn't get my name from them bucause he asked for it before we started instead of volunteering it.

2) So they provide you with my contact information? Isn't that violation of the privacy act since I didn't initiate anything from my end such as apply for a credit card, etc?

Answer: Sir, we merely provide a service that allows us to help consumers get back to a reasonable "locked-in" rate so that it's easier to pay the principle down and get debt free more quickly. Great answer but he completely avoided answering the question I had asked. (RED FLAG)

3) Your company isn't doing something like this for free. How do make any money on this?

Answer: When we get the rates reduced we are paid from that reduced interest rate. Does he actually expect me to believe this? Another indirect answer with no substance to support his claim. Just more double-talk. (Another RED FLAG)

He asked could we continue and of course I said yes, knowing that I wasn't going to give him any vital info.

Next he asked for the customer service number on the back of my credit card which I gave him. This is a soft and subtle approach to gain my confidence that he is actually legit. Next he asked for the last 4 digits of my social security number which he didn't get. I told him he didn't need that to take care of this. His reply was that he needed it so that when he called the credit card company they could verify that he was acting on my behalf and he couldn't access anything other than that unless he had my complete number. I still refused.

He then asked for the expiration date on my card which is 10/09 (expired). He then said you do have a more recent card don't you? I replied no, that I merely cut up the new ones when they came and had no plans to ever use them again.

His reply was without an current credit card he couldn't help me, apologized for taking so much of my time and hung up.

With a current credit card and the info he requested he could have done one of several things:

1) Used up the credit I had left up to my limit.
2) Requested a credit increase and used it up.
3) Taken my identity and ruined me for life.

Everyone needs to beware of these fraudulent calls and the scam artists who are out there preying on the unsuspecting consumers. It's happening everywhere and apparently they are scanning our local phone books for prospective victims.

I suppose the Man-Child knows his betters, but his wife could teach him how to greet royalty.... you just saunter up beside them and pat them on the back. On a different note..... I can hardly wait for "Dear Leader" to visit Moscow's Red Square. I bet he will be really conflicted on whose grave to visit first......Lenin's tomb in Red Square, or Stalin's near the Kremlin Wall. Will he fall to the ground and wail while beating clenched fists at the past heroes.... will "Dear Leader" have recovered from the trauma he would experience should he choose to visit first the tomp of Chairman Mao in Tienamen Square, China. I would think he could not possibly visit the site in the Square where the young student (rabble-rouser) got himself crushed by a Commie tank. Movie Reviews (2012, Pirate Radio)

I don't normally bother to write reviews here but every since I went and saw Pirate Radio last week I've been meaning to take a minute and let you all know how outstanding it is for the soundtrack alone. If you're not a fan of classic rock then your opinion will vary but to me that has to be the absolute best soundtrack (compiled of pre-existing tunes) I've ever heard in my life. The story wasn't bad either and the cast of characters was interesting and amusing with Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Bill Nighy being particuarly good in it. It is based on the story of one particular pirate radio station ship off the coast of Great Britain who feels so strongly for their cause that they risk their own freedom once laws are passed against them. Instead of calling it quits they buck the system further and eventually risk their very lives for the party in attempt to not get caught. That synopsis does zero justice to the comedy involved during the whole process of course! See a trailer HERE.

For you freaks who somehow became fans of John Cusack (just kidding, mostly) I can offer you my opinion on 2012, a doomsday story where the entire human population is once again in risk of becoming extinct due to an unforseen solar anomaly that wreaks havoc on our planet. First off, I will prepare you by saying you should go into this movie with an open mind. Sure, that sounds obvious but I mean REALLY open even for hollywood fantasy viewing standards. You'll need to know ahead of time that the focus and main priority of this movie at times is to show you action packed special effects with COMPLETE abandoment of all reason and logic. If you're the type who never questioned how Tom Cruise was able to fly that helicopter down a tunnel smaller then the size of the blade then this one may work out well for you. On the plus side, you get to see some awesome special effects (over and over and over again to the point you feel you could probably animate an earthquake yourself). Another positive is that there actually is a plot and story line that is well thought out however it gets bogged down at times and just seems to go on forever towards the end. This movie is long... 2 hours and 38 minutes to be exact. More importantly, it feels even longer and quite honestly by the time you reach the stories climax you may very well wish they all die anyway just so you can continue your day sooner. I know I did. Here is a video of a meteor that just passed over the city. It lit up the whole place like it was daytime. You can see in the video, which is from a home security system, that it was bright enough to shut off the street lamp. Pretty crazy stuff!

I got an email today from Big Dog stating that Gene Simmons contacted them looking for any Big Dog owners in the southern California area that might be interested in attending a taping of the Family Jewels show they are shooting tomorrow. I'm not sure if they're just trying to gather riders on custom looking bikes or if there is some reason it might be Big Dog specifically but I figured I'd pass along what details they've released so far here.

The filming will take place at Cook's Corner in Silverado, CA starting at 1:45pm. THIS is the map they provided to get there for those not familiar with the location. I'm curious what kind of crazy stupid shlt they're up to this time so if anyone attends please post up and fill us in.
