Thanks Kirk,

I gave them a call and got a qoute of $145.00 plus tax with free installation if I brought in my rim off my bike. That not bad! I may have to consider this as a possible option. Only thing is that they would have to order it which the earliest they can get is by next tuesday.

Metzeler Front Tires

This has turned out to be a post on Metzeler tires [:0] so here goes my .02 ;)

For us Socal guys it's worth will calling tires in Santa fe Springs even paying 8.25% Ca S.T.
http://www.motorhelmets.com/htm-service/service-contacts.htm
http://www.motorhelmets.com/htm-bodyparts/metzeler/pr-bodyparts-motorcycle-tires-metzeler-cruiser-touring-custom.htm

Shipping is extra and NOT free on tires + Sales Tax
Tires: 110-10432 - 130/60VR-18 - $145.90
Tires: 110-10430 - 240/40VR-18 - $188.88

Both these frt tires have identical numbers but differ in width & height when mounted
Tires: 110-13309 - 130/70HR-18(GL)- $126.69 (Goldwing) 130/70R18 TL 63H
Tires: 110-13361 - 130/70HR-18(H) - $113.88 (VTX1800) 130/70R18 TL 63H

I have the 110-13361 (H) and there is no marking that i can find on the side wall

Here are the sizes from the Metzeler:http://www.us.metzelermoto.com/media/metzeler_full_07_lo.pdf
110-13361 (H) (VTX1800) Width(128)-5.039" * Dia(653)-25.709"
110-13309 (GL) (Goldwing)Width(129)-5.079" * Dia(639)-25.158"

Cruiser Customizing has a catalog error Here:http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/detail.cfm?model_ID=0&Category_ID=24&manufacturer_ID=144&product_ID=17612&sblid_name=Metzeler_ME_____Marathon_______HR____Front

The VTX 1800 uses the other tire Here that i have and less $'s:http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/detail.cfm?Category_ID=94&manufacturer_ID=144&product_ID=17613&model_ID=0

I've been riding on this frt tire for >10,000 miles now. Did a major bike trip up north w/Jaytee on some really nasty sandy/gravel back roads when crossing over the Sherman Pass and never picked up anything between the fender & tire which shocked the hell out of me :) ;).

After mounting the new frt tire i loosened up my front fender bracket bolts and pulled-up on the fender tip to achieve as much clearance as possible as i had read in other threads! Cake I did'nt do any slotting of the holes.

Visually there is no way that i'm aware of to identify or differ between the 2 mentioned tires other than the PN on the banded label from Parts Limited/Drag Specialties. The IP code number in the Metzler catalog doesn't appear on the tire [:0]

BTW, i got my 110-13361 for $115.00 landed in Corona from Dennis Kirk who was price matching Ron Ayers at the time

Re: SoCal North

Kich, is next Tuesday a problem? These storms are supposed to last through Monday and possibly Tuesday. I don't have the means or mechanical aptitude to just take in my rims. That's why it's going to cost me $506 total with the install. Ouch!

Man, do you guys work during the day? OK here is my turn:

Chris- advise well taken...I totally understand what you mean. It was very uncharacteristic of me to scrape that part since I also subscribe to the same school of thought that " no chicken strips" doesn't necessarily mean a better or faster rider.

Kich-I never lowered my bike like Jerome, so I would need to raise it beyond the stock height, and no please don't post your shoe fetish pix again[8D]

As far as the difference between the Roadtec Z6 and the Marathon, here is a short exerpt from Metzler website:

Z6
Excellent wet performance with solid contact feeling for outstanding traction and easy handling characteristics
"Fine Carbon Matrix" compound: best dry grip among the segment tires, engineered to exploit the performance offered by modern bikes, matching a long mileage
Specifically developed contour for confidence-inspiring overall riding feeling with friendly feedback on all bikes, for riding at best or simply at ease with high safety margins and great comfort

ME 880 Marathon
Machine-specific carcass construction for exceptional riding comfort and stability at all speeds, even under heavy load
Tread pattern design with offset central groove's alignment providing uniform tread wear, very high mileage for never-ending riding fun
Very smooth handling and highest stability for easy riding in all conditions, at full speed on straight as well as on twisty mountain roads

WHen I read that, i didn't know what they meant by SEGMENT. Do they mean within Sport Touring tires or ALL tires?

I meant it within Sport Touring.

I think they meant within sport touring. The absolute best Metzler tires which are really available for sport bikes are the Sportec M3 which are great for track use and the twisties (probably my next set of tires on the 636).

Chris, Metzler makes a tire specific for a VTX but not for a warrior? WTF!!

Kirt, I can wait till Tuesday but wanted to see what MC Tire would charge first.

Ali, I think I am just going to get a ME 880 tire for the front to match the 240 rear. I like the look of the tread and it supposed to last long too! I like that!
Youre wanting to raise you bike higher than stock? Did you have a recent growth spert or something? Just think about your safety first and make sure that you can still reach the ground before making the change.
I heard from Yankee and Grady that you can get a set of 02 peg mount brackets which are taller than the 05 and later bikes and adds about 1 to 2 inch additional peg clearance. This might be a better alternate solution for you. Just a thought!

Well, I will probably get the links to play around with my clearance as well. As it is now, I can flatfoot the bike with my knees slightly bent. I think I can raise it about an inch and I will be OK.

Re: SoCal North

I saw that, thanks Jerome. However, i'm not a big fan of the windsheilds b/c it impedes in my view. The one I have was nice b/c it was small and still functional.

I'm gonna try doing some mods to the one i have to see if i can make the fitment better. If not, i may have to bite a bullet. the wind is too much for me now, i feel like a parachute.
