thats the price you pay for good sticky rubber I was lucky to get 2000 miles out of metzlers on my R-1 but she'd corner like she was on velcro, I'd replace the exhaust can almost as often as the rubber
I'd rather tear up tires than the ass of my jeans anyday, wayyyy cheaper

Ok, I talked with my dealer about the discount and replacing my worn out Metzeler. He is the deal. You get 50% off of the retail price of whatever tire you chose to replace and the dealership gets a free tire from Metzeler. Now just think, retail is very high compared to the discount internet prices. So I am getting the Dunlop that came on it origially for $135.00 plus $30.00 to mount it on the wheel. I already took the wheel off. So it is not really that great of a deal. Really only $10 cheaper than the best internet price I have seen. Because this particular tire, the Bridgestone also, retail for about $260.00. But hopefully my next tire will last longer than 2700 miles. Especially since I have not done any burnouts until the steel is showing.

I HATED the BT020 rear. Too hard, and it didn't last. I now have a Sportec M1, and the thing hooks up great. It also has a rounder profile, and it handles great too. I was always sliding that damn Bridgestone around. That sucks when you are not trying to.

With just over 7000 miles on the odometer. I ordered my 4th Rear Tire & will be installing it this week. That is an average of 2500 mile per tire. I started out(new bike)with the Dunlop 200 OEM "soft". Then went to a Metzeler 210 because I thought bigger was better "wrong". Then out of necessity I purchased locally a Bridgestone 190, "best so far". I am now convienced that no rear tire is going to hold up for long or much better than the other on this bike. And anyone who brags about getting 5000+ miles out of a tire is full of __it. Like the guy on the phone told me who I was ordering my most recent tire from , "..you drive a Ferrari & you complain about the gas mileage !?"

I think weight and riding style has a ton to do with it at 275lb I am sure my tire will not make it as long as others. Now add in hard starts and stops and as many turns as I can find and I know where my tire are going. I did 2 burnouts just for the heck of it but nothing much.

I am really pissed now because my pipes are off and I pulled the tire to put a new one on. Now I will miss that final farwell burn I love so much. One more reason to hate Hard Krome :(

I love the Matzler Pattern, I just got the front and the 240 for the rear, waiting for the Swingarm to put on it. If I was not going to change anything, I probably wouls have stuck with the Battlax. Maybe even go to BT56...

    Re: Don't Get Metzeler Tires

My stock ones has 5200 miles and still working. I consider change to a smaller tire because you never use all the contact patch of your tire. Maybe it will handling better.200/50 =100mm tall.190/50=95mm tall.180/55= 99mm tall. 190/55=104.5mm tall.If you turn rear suspension to setting #1(preload)you can reset your bike using 190/55tire. More or less the same, use 180/55.Lower 190/55.Good luck!

Tread wear isnt everthing.  I switched to the METZ after I toasted the Stock Dunlop...  Never looked back, and I'll never try anything else.

Also the Bigger radius on the back end allows to you lean waaaay over in the curves...  You trade sticky for tread wear with these...

I'd rather re-up on tires more frequently than ride around with a brick $Hit house on the back wheel that slips around...
