I'll bet RaySDF250, Pep and Riverat have something to say about that [

I sure do! I was dismayed when I saw that there was a gap between the bead and the tire. Most people don't see it until I point it out, but I know it's there. And there's nothing I can do about it. It's something that I am painfully aware of, and no one else notices, but I still can't stand to know it's there. I checked the Dunlop site, and their 240 is recommended for a 8" wide rim, instead of the 8.5" that the Metz was designed for. I guess it makes sense if you consider that their 250 is recommended for a 8.5" rim and it's wider than the Metz 260. I think it's kinda stupid if you ask me.
Although, one day I was in a Harley dealership and I went over to see the Night Rod Special with a stock 240, and it had the same gap between the bead and tire, so I didn't feel so bad. My next tire will definitely be one that fits the rim better. Had I known this was the case, I might have had my wheel widened only to 8". I would have had a slightly lighter wheel, and the performance gains from it.
And my next tire will be the Metz, or Pirelli (depending on how many miles AlanH gets out of his). Don't get me wrong, I love the Dunlop tire. Love the tread, the life, just hate that gap. If I were to rest the wheel on its side, even with the tire mounted, it would be the rim that is in contact with the ground, and not the tire.
