I agree with flaminwarrior. I don't like this little toy sound I'm gettting when I try to crank my bike.

I want it to sound like two live electrical wires dangling after Hurricane Wilma.

I'm talking the sound of two bolts of lightning thrown by Zeus himself.

Will this SVR-14 do that? Should I do something else to get that cool crackling electrical starting sound like someone just got put on the electric chair?

The info in this thread is way out of date.

As a courtesy to people doing current searches on this topic...

The site previously recommended (evparts.com) now sells this battery for $124 (Item #BT9520). But I found it on apexbattery.com for $95 (Item# M-SVR14).  Apex also sells the OEM replacement for $89 (Item# U-42018).

origional battery died. dealer wanted $160 for replacement. took old battery to wallmart and matched up $30 cycle battery. had to drill hole in bottom of box for drain tube. works just fine.

I see this is your first post, welcome to the forums!

I hope you will post the brand, battery 'part' number, the CCA rating, and the dimensions of the battery you bought, otherwise its useless less helpful info.

[just making my buddy oldman happy!]

Saying it's a useless post is kinda harsh and just really gives someone new a warm feeling about the forum.   We found out wal-Mart has an inexpensive replacement battery.  I'd say that's pretty good for a first post.

So welcome to the forum and thanks for the info!

+1, the dimensions are already posted, all you gotta do is head down to wally world with your tape measure. I may just have to give this a go as my bat is 7 years old and I doubt it will make it to 8.

I do have a question: When I start up for the first time of the day, It will some times fire then die right away, when I start up again it starts fine but clears my trips and resets my clock, I was thinking it was the ancient batteries fault, but any insight would be appreciated, I get sick of having to reset the clock all the time, and loosing the mileage on the trip gets annoying also.

    thanks,

    DanO

Either your battery is getting low, it's cold out, or your connections need looking after.   I would check all your connections first, make sure they are all tight, and not corroded.

I have had this happen once myself since I got it Dan.  No idea other than loosing all power for a split second.

+1 its a classic sign of momentary power loss, so its either bad battery cable connections.  If these symptoms occur during start-up and while riding, then its more likely cables.  If it only happens when cold-starting, its more likely a soon-to-be-dead battery (energizing the starter motor drops the battery power below the minimum needed to keep the ECU energized and the charging system doesn't provide power in time to pevent momentary ECU drop-out).

Am I the only one wondering if this is an AGM battery with the vent hose (obviously not) so is anyone else wondering where those acidic fumes are venting to and what happens when they land on the swingarm........?

i would stay with AGM batteries.... acidic fumes are not good for the paint, swingarm or whatever. and if -nobody want- but if you crash, that battery is going to spill all over. not a good thing in a motorcycle.
