Noticed that helmuts have been dropping in prices

I noticed that there are a lot of helmuts in catalogs that look great and can be purchased at $100.00 . Like in jcwhtineys , Shadetree and others have you noticed this as well and they seem to meet at the spec's.

I bought a new one and the bike show this winter. It's way better quieter than my last full face and I only paid $80 for it.

Here's a great source for nice deals on lids. I bought mine there. They'll ship anywhere.

for the most part, you get what you pay for.

in very low speed crashes, a plastic helmet will protect as well as a fiberglass. how many of you maniacs every ride at a very low speed???

plastic helmets reley on the "hard foam" liner alone to do the protection. while fiberglass lids the fiberglass starts to crush and spreads the impact over a larger area before the inner "hard foam" even begins to compress.

this is a very edited way of telling all that a helmet does, but you guys are plenty smart enough to figure the rest out.

when it comes to any protective gear my thought has always been to spend every penny that your wallet tells you you can.

do you really want the cheapest doctor in town?

Actually cycle world or Motorcycleist did a study over three months with all the top brand helmets and the $89.00 PEPboys brand did better than all the other helmets on the market. Arai, shoei, soumy, hjc, kfx, bell I mean all of them. They did highspeed low speed different angles. They went all out and lost some advertisers in the end..

DOT approved is DOT approved whether it's a $400 helmet or a $100 helmet. The biggest advantage with the high end lids is that they are quieter, lighter, cooler and generally more comfortable. I've been down 4 times. 3 times with cheap helmets and walked away, and one time with no helmet and went to the hospital, after I woke up.

For the most part all helmets that are DOT approved provide pretty much the same protection. The extra money you pay for more expensive helmets is for the graphics, different types of ventilation, shields etc...

I've owned maybe 20 helmets? Seems the ones I like cost more. Sure they all perform the basics. I try to be realistic about it.

everything you guys are saying is basicly correct, but... snell and d.o.t. test are "pass/fail" the end consumer does not get to find out if a helmet passed with a C+ or A-.

yes the biggest cost diff. do go into vents, straps, visors, liners, etc. to and value to the helmet. just as a ford to a bmw.

if i get to go to deals gap next month (and boy do i want to) i will bring some paper work with me and any one who wants to read it is welcome to it.

i hope this has not come across as argumentative, for that is the not what i have ment to be. thanks
