    Re: (TPS) Yamaha Recall

Asked my dealer if I could get the part and do the work myself. They said it was a Federal Regulation that a certified Yamaha mechanic do the work. I didnt think I would be this uneasy about someone else working on my bike but I dont want to hand it over to them. I think I will strip the tank, teardrop cover, and anything else myself and just let them touch it as little as possible.

Yo leetp , there is no need to remove the tank. If they just remove you'r teardrop cover there is plenty of space to remove and refit the new tps. The reason i know this is that i had mine replaced today and not trusting the dealer, removed my speedster scoop and checked to make sure that a new tps had been replaced .......Frec......U.K..

IMO remove the tank if you don't trust the techs, else it will become a target. It's necessary to remove and set aside the vacuum line that blocks the security torx screws that hold and adjust the TPS. These lines are concealed by the tank. if your bike is still stalling, I would turn up the idle. That happened to me and ever since i turned it up, I haven't had an ounce of trouble

Yup, i agree with shadow670 your Yami Tech wrote his own manual. The resolution in the Diag mode is not accurate for the task IMO.

I actually left that out. He checked the position in DIAG, reset it in DIAG the then checked with it the Ohm meter. That took an extra 30 seconds, not 2-3 days. Sounds like your dealers are licking their finger before they stick it in your ass! Hey, at least they are thoughtful enough to do that, they could do it dry....[;)]

I guess you could do everything by the manual, but sometimes there are better, easier ways to do things. Not everything in the manual is the most clear cut way to do things. It is a shortcut, and accomplished the same result.

    Re: (TPS) Yamaha Recall

Got mine back from dong the recall the other day. I notice it seems to be a little smoother, but the big deal for me is I not longer get any popping throught the intakes on acceleration. Used to get it every so often, at least once a ride. Now it's gone! Maybe it was just the TB synch that did it, but it was all free.

    Re: (TPS) Yamaha Recall

Replacing the TPS has no affect on the throttle body synch [:0] [;)]
It is a sealed spring loaded potentiometer that slips over the No. 2 cyl throttle body shaft with an integral female coupling (hex bore). When properly setup the TPS is under tension when the throttle body is closed.

The throttle body shaft rotates on a sealed precision ball bearing and the TPS when assembled seals the cavity of the throttle bottle with an o-ring as i recall. The new TPS even comes prelubed with silicone in the bore of the coupling.
It's too bad that Yamaha Engineering hasn't put this type of detail into the CPS. When it fails you're DEAD IN THE WATER riding in the fast lane or merging traffic on your right [:(!] [:(] [V] [:0] and that's all i got to say about that!
