    Stainless Steel engine bolts...Fastener Fable-2

MrWilson...thanks for the compliment. Here's another fastener fable [:)]

Standard Socket Button Head screws are 2 wrench sizes smaller than Socket Head screws of equal thread diameter.

The Yamaha Oversized Socket Button Head screws have the same wrench size as Socket Heads! Cake

Stainless soc button head screws cannot sustain equal torque as there soc head counterparts. [:(] I found this out when i was torquing the smaller button head fasteners that came with the billet final drive cover. [:(!] Started to strip the hex before achieving torque value so i used stainless soc heads. [;)]

I WOULD NOT USE STAINLESS BUTTON HEAD SCREWS FOR ANY HIGH STRENGTH/HIGH TORQUE APPLICATIONS, SUCH AS PEG MOUNTING BRACKETS TO FRAME, ETC.

I thought many of the fasteners on the Warrior were already stainless, am I incorrect here?

It's not worth the hassle to undo the crank-case-half fasteners so I'm assuming you left those alone leaving most of the bolts you are replacing on the covers which only get about 7.2 lbs or torque. I believe the fasteners you used will not stretch under those circumstances.

I never liked the finished look of those bolts enough to justify the purchase. The heads did not really have the smooth high polished look I desired and often looked porous. The one you pictured doesn't appear any different to me, are they polished?

That I don't know,if the stock bolts are SS, And yes I left the crank case bolts alone, well the price of 24 dollars for a set of 54 or so bolts, was cheap enough to consider and they do polish up nicely to accent the bike. And honestly the stock bolts, quite a few were starting to build up oxidation, and were a pain to clean. And some were starting to strip at the hex.

    Good points! Cheap price too!
Although I live close to the ocean the oxidation I had on the bolts was minumal compared to some of the Warriors I've seen. The rest of the bike suffered from oxidation under the clear coating on many of the non-painted items though. [xx(]

I bought two sets so 48 bucks plus 5 bucks shipping, hear this, at j&p cycles offers a similar set at 238 dollars, at first I was comtemplating buying them but when I was at ebay and saw these, I said to myself, what am a retart, bought the ebay ones and spent the difference on ss brake lines front and rear, 136, and left forward chrome outer timing cover, 65, its a few bucks over, but WTF, four items versus 1.
