    Stainless Steel engine bolts...

I picked 2 sets of these bolts from Thunderboltz off ebay, and let me tell you, as compared to stock these look real good and accent the bike nicely!

I bought some too - I still need to install them. On my list of things to do... I want to replace the engine mount bolts as well - they were very corroded when I removed them...

    Stainless Steel engine bolts...Fastener Fable-1

Be very selective as to what bolts you replace with Stainless Steel (SS). They are not high strength fasteners.

Check the head markings of the bolts you are replacing. Any head marking of Class 8.8 and greater should not be replaced with SS IMHO.

The SS screws that Yamaha furnishes with the billet accessories are not high strength applications so don't be mislead.

Use chrome plated steel bolts for high strength applications where required or get your bolts chromed.

Check the head markings on the OEM socket bolts you plan on replacing. They are marked [;)]
    They range from Class 8.8 ~ 12.9 [:)]

    Re: Stainless Steel engine bolts...

looking at the #'s the bolts you are replaceing are about a 30%-50% weaker then the ones from yamaha....

yamaha bolts, Proof Load 120,000 / Minimum Yield Strength 130,000 / Minimum Tensile Strength 150,000

stainless, Proof Load nothing listed / Minimum Yield Strength 45,000 – 70,000 / Minimum Tensile Strength 100,000

    all are psi

    Re: Stainless Steel engine bolts...

looking at this pic, most of the bolts they replace arent under large amounts of stress, the stainless should be fine, but its still a choice you will have to make

The Road Star chrome bolt kit worked well for me. Adds a little more bling!! It's in the Star accessory catalogue
