    diy-forcewinder-style intake (pic)

well, got the lower piece of the air-snorkle of a 650 v-star, attached it to the warrior, got a 2inch plastic-pipe (for rainwater etc.), painted it black, fixed it with a polished alumninium-stripe and installed a k&n-style filter (a sketch i posted before).
have a pipe with a larger diameter now (3 inch) and i'll get a bigger filter.
just like this, it has the same flow as the stock-airbox (co2-sensor said that we put into the pipe. the mixture was the same as stock. maybe a bit richer. got more torque at low rpms and a bit less at higher (butt-dyno says).

Looks good. Maybe you should go work for Thunder so they can put out a good product.

i cant see how a 1700cc motor can breathe through that one tiny filter. i am not surprised you lost hp and gained torque. looks good though. i would go with a larger filter however.
If it's not blown...it must suck!

with 3inch diameter and bigger filter it should nwork much more different. a guy on the vstar did exactly the setup that i want to go for:

    Re: diy-forcewinder-style intake (pic)

The name "Forcewinder" is really a bit misleading, isn't it? That setup would hardly force-feed air. The air will hit the top cap on the air filter, and probably build a flow over the filter surface rather than push in through the filter. It would be interesting to see a wind tunnel analysis of that setup..! [:p]

To get a real force-feed I belive you'd have to have an open entrance from the front, where the air would push in freely, and then set the filter somewhere inside. The best solution is probably a pressurized air box, pushing air through as large as possible filter surface areas into the throttle bodies.

But this setup will probably allow a lot more flow than the stock filter, and it looks great! [8D]

well, there's a company called "forcewinder" that makes air-cleaners like this with a 90 degree turned pipes. their filters also have caps. that's why i called it "forcewinder"-style. thunder tornade air kits are similar.
