My DIY sidemount plate/light...one more cant hurt?

Okay...with regret for flodding the modification forum with yet another side mount plate thread, here it goes.

Shortly after my transition to the warrior world, I discovered the price for side mount plate kits was more than I was willing to pay. I made a template out of paper to attach the plate to the belt gaurd using the two main bolts on the gaurd itself. I bought $6.00 worth of steel at Home Depot and set off on my first custom fabrication adventure. I then cut out the design and grinded the edges fairly smooth and bent the metal at a 90 degree angle using a vice. After that, a quick shot of flat black paint and she was good to go. Then I bought a step light from signal dynamics and wired it up to the stock wiring harness using the wires left over from my rear fender removal. Slapped on the liscense plate cover I recieved from the dealer I bought my bike from and...

Nothing too fancy but I'm more than satisfied with my first Warrior do-it-yourself mod. I feel like I beat the man and came up with something better. When all was said and done...I spent a whopping $26 bucks. $6 for the steel and $20 for the light. Not bad...[|)][:D][|)][?]

I think it looks good. A great job/value. The only problem I see is people have had problems mounting the plate to the belt cover tab. After riding for a while it normally breaks the weld that holds the tab.

I've already done my plate mod, but I like yours, and for the price...
    tough to beat.
There IS a serious vibration concern... perhaps you should attach a chain to your plate and bolt that to the bike... just in case...

Where is the light mounted and do you have a link to where you ordered the light?

That's some good advice............let's hope that chain and plate holder don't end up swinging into your pully or rim thus causing you to lock up the rear wheel...............

How did you run the wire for the plate light? I was going to do something similar but can't think of a clean way.

Need better pics before making my comment. Can you try some side shot daylight images with the sun behind you as you take the photo?

Been looking for a good plate light! As far as vibration goes, I have a BSR side mount that was real bad. I Put some rubber washers between the bracket and the frame..took care of almost all the vibration.

Yeah I guess we'll just have to wait and see. I've looked at the tab on the swingarm that you've mentioned and I agree that it COULD be an issue. I've had the plate mounted there for probably 700 miles and havent had any hint of a problem yet. You can ride and glance back and it doesn't appear to be vibrating excessively at all, even on the throttle hard. Obviously only time will tell. I'm at work now so I'll try and take some more pictures from the side tonight. I also have another pic that shows the routing of the wire for the LED plate light. Thanks for all the feedback!
