    Rear Brake Reservoir

Ok, so I got to thinking about all the clutter on the right side of the bike in the rear and what I could do to really show off the polished rear brake calipers and the polished rim... Well, easiest way is to just remove all the clutter, but that leaves you with a little problem... where are you going to put your brake reservoir? Well, there's some room between the swingarm and the frame so that looked like the perfect spot... but alas, custom parts. I've recently built up my arsenal of tools, so I figured I'd take a crack at it. Here goes:

    Build Time: 2 hrs
Supplies: 3 inches of 3/4" Aluminum Flat Bar
Tools: Allen Wrenches, Grinder, Drill, 1/4" Bit, Exacto Knife, Clean Plastic Cup, Beer

NOTE: This is a DIY mod and carries no factory guarantee and may void warranty - use at your own discretion. Surgeon General does not recommend using power tools and consuming alcohol. With that said...here goes.

    1. Unscrew the brake reservoir and the brackets holding it in place using allen wrench. Don't toss any of them, you'll need them later on.
    2. Remove top exhaust pipe to make some room. Depending on your pipe setup, you may need to remove both / none.
    3. Drain your brake fluid into the clean plastic cup... save this for later unless you've got some extra brake fluid around your garage.
    4. Unscrew the bolt holding the bracket that has a clamp on it (bottom left under drive cover). Save this bolt because you'll use it to mount your new bracket.

    5. Using the grinder and the 3" peice of aluminum flat bar, grind one end to fit the groove where you removed the bolt from in step 4. Drill one hole to on the shaped end to fit the bolt. Make sure it's right in the middle of your rounded end otherwise you won't get a good fit. Next, take your drained brake reservoir and mark the location of the holes needed to mount it to the bracket, and drill your holes.

    6. You'll have to shorten the stock brake supply line so you dont' have clutter. I cut off roughly 11", which leaves you with enough to reconnect the brake reservoir.
    7. Time to start putting things back on... First, mount the brake reservoir to the bracket. Next, mount the bracket using the bolt from below the drive cover. Reconnect the supply line and fill the reservoir back up with the fluid you saved, or new fluid. Make sure to bleed your brake line!!! Now, cap off the reservoir. Re-mount your pipe(s) and you're ready to go!

I also fab'd a custom license plate mount for the left side - first crack at using a welder... practice makes perfect.

    Enjoy!

nice mod and very clean look. have to think about bleedding my brakes and shorten the brakeline.

but ... stupid question ... why do the manufacturers always mount the brakefluid-reservoirs higher than the brakes? maybe it has to do with airbubbles or sth. like that.
sorry but i don't know. only a thought
Life may be hard but the alternative sucks!

The reservoir is above the master cylinder because the cylinder is gravity fed. The caliper can be located anywhere in relation to the master cylinder.

didn't know that baron's had one... BUT, there's some satisfaction in making your own, right? Next project is going to be lengthening the suspension control arms to get a little lower ride in the back. i've got Baron's kit on right now, but it's just not low enough (although i do have to ride up onto a 2x4 to get the lift under the bike right now... maybe an airRide... hmmm

A bracket made for just this purpose can be purchased from BUB, but I dont know the price. I dont think it is very pricey. You dont have to bleed the lines or cut down the brake line. If anyone is interested, PM me and I'll shoot you a pick. The bracket came with the BUB Chambermaid pipes I installed.
