Nice job! I know to each his own, but I am not too keen on the weld. Regardless if it is well done.

Damn I have my heart set on a 260 so bad but the $$ aspect just puts it out of my reach for the time being. The diff between 240mm and 260mm on a ruler is only a hair over 3/4" but is about $1000 more. Uuuuuuuugh you guys r making it so hard for me to stick to my 260 guns.

IMO....3/4" is not worth $1000 but that's just me!

This is a great mod I have been wanting a fat a$$ on mine so bad and I think I just found the rought that I am going to take. Thanks for sharing. Now I just got to convince the other half to let me stay in the garage long enough to do it.[:D]

I wish I had taken more pics of the swing arm during the grinding
but I only found this one.

1. Not seen small cresent shape ground out on left side bottom

2. Small cresent shape ground out on right side bottom

3. In this area only removed tiny anount, didnt really have to but the tire was about 1/8 inch away.

4. Is where I took material off so the caliper had room to move.

I consider myself a weekend mechanic and looks doable to me considering my skill level. My question is....can you do the grinding without taking the swingarm off the bike. I've taken the back tire & wheel off once to save myself a few bucks on getting tire change. It looks like if you jack up the bike with a motorcycle jack (which I have)it looks like you should be able to reach all the areas that need to be ground. Pros & Cons????

Edited 4/13/08 : As i recall RaySDF250 modified his swingarm on the bike for the Dunlop Elite 3, maybe he will pipe in Confused

I did this mod 1-year ago with an 4" angle grinder that was on sale. Being that i purchased a swingarm from another member i did it off the bike. Also, my arm is modified for the Metzler 240 tire that resides on a 18 x 8-1/2 wide rim and requires much more stock removal on the cast component.

My preferred tool of choice for this job would be a Pneumatic Angle Die Grinder - 20,000 RPM which would allow for more precise metal removal for the 240 Metazler. This type of tool requires 14CFM which i can't support.

Here's a photo of how to mask off and protect your investment if on the bike [:D] I chose to do a rerun for additional stock removal that's why the enclosed photos

I think doing it on the bike is possible. Remember fine aluminum dust will fly everywhere and cling to anything and the some spray painting too. Removing the swing arm is easier than removing the rear wheel. I would take the swing arm off IMO.

Dr. Alan to Surgery....STAT. [:D]

BTW..I just looked over your photos. Man, you really have to remove a significant amount of material to get it to clear. That seems awfully thin in some areas. [?]

Did you have Mike help you load pics? I just noticed the pics are backwards. The brake is on the left side of the swing arm...Nice job! I love DIY mods.
